So I, unlike others, know how to read and knew this was a graphic novel. I got it because it said it was the story of how Mercy came to the Tri-Cities, so even tho I'm not a fan of graphic novels of books I like, I do get them when it's a new story/something that's supposed to add new information about the characters. HOWEVER this is not what this story is, it appears to be a bastardization of all the the origins of the relationships with a lot of the people close to Mercy. For one thing it has to be changed up to fit the graphic novel format, fine... but what is not acceptable is that it is filled with crap that didn't actually happen. Thru reading the books you glean a lot of information on when and how Mercy meets a lot of people, Zee and Tad, Stefan, Adam and Uncle Mike even, and this book tells it either way off or flat out BS. So the reason why Mercy fans wouldn't enjoy this book is because it gives no NEW information and just a bunch of crap that makes no sense to the books but is full of plenty of "action" and "drama" for the graphic novel format.SPOILERS:Here of some of the examples.1. It takes Mercy a while to realize there are wolves in the Tri-Cities, I'm pretty sure she meets Warren before she meets Adam, and it's Adam's pack who controls the territory because it's been a while since he was sent in to take care of a lone wolf who started a human murdering pack.2. Adam doesn't move in behind Mercy right away, it's 3 years after she moved in AND he had to build the house.3. Mercy doesn't know until the first book, 9 years after moving to the Tri-Cities, that Bran asked Adam to keep an eye on her, and she's very upset by this fact.4. Medea came to Mercy as a stray, not given to her by Adam, she thought Medea might have been abused by someone because of her stub tail.5. Until the series starts Stefan is the ONLY vampire she's ever met.6. She didn't rescue Tad from a vampire, see above, and Tad had to rehire her 3 times before Zee got over her being a woman and an apparent human before she was permanently on at the garage.7. According to the first book, something than Bran says along with Mercy's assertion that she only lived with her mom for 2 years, Mercy was living on her own and so would not be worried about having to go back to mom.8. From the impression I get from the books, she doesn't meet Uncle Mike until it's mentioned in the series. There is also of course the ever present issue of people and things being drawn in ways other than you imagine as described by the author. Another series which has some prequel graphic novels, the Rachel Morgan series, the author describes using a finger stick, which is a lancet used for drawing blood usually for checking one's blood sugar, the artist however draws the actual blood glucose meter with a test strip hanging out of it for Rachel to use to poke her fingers to draw blood. *facepalm* Which somehow no one managed to catch. Blood Work: An Original Hollows Graphic NovelI don't like they way they drew Mercy's paw and those identical arm bands don't feel like something Mercy would do, too boring, and I don't imagine Stefan with long hair and a do-rag either. And I think Adam's wolf doesn't look like a dark blue/grey with black like a pointed (i.e. Siamese) cat. That's all I can think of as prime examples of the huge discrepancies from this graphic novel and the actual facts stated in the Mercy books, so I do feel it is misleading, because it does not warn you that the story is "inspired" by the facts of Mercy coming to the Tri-Cities but also greatly diverges from the actual story, probably due to the constraints of the graphic novel format. If you really want more read the Alpha and Omega series, which focuses on Charles, a new wolf named Anna and even Bran to an extent.

I have loved Patricia Briggs since, I think, the first time I read a Mercy Thompson book. Needlessly to say, I was very happy when I found out it was a series. I always look forward to getting my hands on the next story (if/when I can) when I find out another one is out. When I found out that there was a graphic novel (comic book) that introduced Mercy to the tri-cities area, I looked forward to getting it. The illustrations gave me pictures of what the characters looked like. In my imagination, I was nowhere near what the characters actually looked like. Thanks for clarifying. I also love Christine Feehan and Lora Leigh because of their Dark and Breeds storylines, but I think a major reason I love Patricia's stories more is because she puts the effort into the storylines and doesn't depend on a lot of bedroom stuff to keep the reader interested, and coming back for more. When I started reading the Alpha and Omega stories, I knew that they were connected. When I asked Patricia for a single timeline on the two storylines, I was very happy when I found out she put a chronological timeline on her website. I am now working on reading the whole set in sequential order. A very good job, Patricia. Keep up the great work!

The best comics / graphic novels are subversive, challenging and confronting. The artwork should catch your attention and refuse to let go. Not here. The story is the sort of generic that any hack screenwriter could write, the artwork is derivative and clichéd...in the entire book there was a single panel I looked at twice. One panel. It's not something I plan on reading again.I bought the kindle version.Don't.It just doesn't work. The experience was OK because I was able to read it on my computer but it does not work at all on a Kindle. The art which isn't great to start with loses even the little it has and the text is too small to read.

In the first place I'm not a fan of comic books. In the second place, before I returned this for a refund on the Kindle, I needed a magnifying glass to read any of the print even though I enlarged it as much as allowed. Patricia Briggs should just stick to writing the series as usual and if necessary in short story form for such as this if she does not wish to make it a full novel.

I thoroughly enjoyed this graphic novel, and while there were a couple things that didn't quite mesh with me in terms on continuity (i.e. the relative locations of their homes and missing field w/ junker in between) and how I pictured the characters: The men are drawn very similarly and just too pretty to fit the roles and descriptions from the books. I mean, Adam looks more like Twilight's Edward ::shudder:: than anything close to what I pictured, and the only way to tell some of the men apart was their clothing and accessories. There were times I had to flip back and forth a bit just to figure out who Mercy was talking to at one time or another.Despite that, I really enjoyed the insights it gave in terms of character backstory and it fleshed out some of the common settings for me. Not only that, I felt the need to re-read the series.I'm really happy I purchased this book, but then I read all the information, viewed the sample, and read the reviews before making my purchase. I think it's kind of hilarious to read the reviews of people who didn't do any kind of homework and then freaked about when it wasn't what they imagined it might be.

An OK book, It has some typos and some concepts that are not that well explained. It's Ok if you have an Italian teacher to guide you and correct some of the subjects.I prefer Italian Demystified if you want to study on your own.

Studying Italian as an adult is challenging, to say the least. I've studied on my own, been to an immersion course in Italy for two weeks, and listened to CDs. Though all of those things help, I think this book has been the greatest benefit, so far. There is a mix of approaches and no rote memorization - other than what a person has to do to learn vocabulary. I do think that having the basics of present tense in essere, avere, and fare is HELPFUL (just make a little cheat sheet on a 3x5 card) but it is not necessary (non bisogna). The answers are in the back of the book and it is good, I think, to work through a section at a time in each chapter to feel I am on the right track. Again, this book is not the typical ... My name is, How are you, etc. Though these phrases are in the book, they are incorporated in a much more natural way. Buona fortuna. (P.S. if you have a smartphone or iPad, I have found it helpful to use a translation app **just to check** a certain word here or there. No cheating!)

This is the BEST basic Italian book I have seen in my 6 years of study. I am thinking of using it to teach others. I love it because it teaches you the way you learned English, in context. By that I mean it does not start with verb conjugation though it does cover it well in the book. Pronouns are used early and made a natural part of things. For adult learners the text is REAL not about the typical young adult subjects. On top of all this the price is reasonable.

The book tends to throw a lot of grammatical detail early on and only much later actual practice writing. The students need more vocabulary and conversational phrase work earlier on. Also, there are no pictures, which means that the student focuses upon translation, not direct acquisition. People remember with pictures and in contextual situations. There are inconsistencies in explanations and several typos. However, the ongoing Lettura saga is fun and the progression eventually leads to learning the language.

I got the book for a class I was taking, the book is good, but frankly my low review is related to the page #'s on the electronic version do not all align with the print version- this is a huge pain in the ass when trying to use this book for class.

I have another Italian textbook, from a college class. It's excellent. This one, however, is better. I'm very impressed. The progression of the chapters makes so much sense to me. I'm retaining a lot more than the last class/text.

I really like the way the book is laid out. Lessons, exercises and then answers in the back. It has been very helpful to me during this review ( for some of the lessons) and learning for the others.

Inexcusably more expensive than other languages in the same series. But so good as to be indispensable to the self-taught learner.
