This is a great coloring book filled with pictures that remind me of Summer. The beach, palm trees, and fruity drinks. I’m not a fan of birds so it’s nice there were none in this book! You won’t find a lot of tiny and intricate shapes like many other adult coloring books out there; a big plus for me. My Primascolor colored pencils works great on the pages. The pages are one sided and you don’t have to worry about bleeding, if you want to use markers or brush pens.I definitely recommend this adult coloring book if you’re looking for pretty and simple pages that remind you of Summer. The Spring edition coloring book is great as well.

I was looking for an easy, large print coloring book, as the intricate patterns give my hand cramps. This beach themed coloring book has 20 easy, one sided, non-perforated pages to color. There are 4 sample bonus pages in the back of the book. This was just what I was looking for.

For me, the most interesting books involve strong, well-developed characters. Ender’s Game is a 5 Star book because of Ender Wiggin; a complex and compelling boy whom the reader can’t help but empathize with and cheer for throughout the read.Does this book really need another review? Probably not. Clearly, Ender’s Game is the mark of an excellent sci-fi read, so a lot of people probably agree with my assessment of Card’s work. But let me just say, any book that has aliens (check), really really ridiculously smart children (check), a fast-paced and interesting plot line (check), action and battle and war! (check), and beautiful writing (check), should be read.

I got this book when I saw a trailer for the movie. I was so intrigued by the trailer, I felt I needed to read the book. And I am so glad I did. There was so much they had to cut from the book to make the movie. Plus, getting to be in Ender’s head was pretty cool.Basic premise of the book: future dystopian world undergoing population control. The world has been attacked by aliens and humans were so scared, they decided to track down and wipe the aliens out. But they realized adult reflexes were too slow and their decisions weren’t ruthless enough. So they created a battle school to find the smartest, most ruthless and most strategic of kids, and so they found Ender. To train him, they used games simulating battles they were actually having in space and they were amazed at the choices he made. Through video games, they were able to make Ender into a perfect military leader.I won’t tell any more than that because I don’t want to spoil the book. But if you find yourself thinking “why is this kid so freaking important to these battle school leaders”, at least you will understand going in. Definitely read it. I’ve read it twice now and it still amazes me.

I am unhappy with this product. I ordered this hardcover, thinking it was a novel. This isn't a novel, it is a graphic novel. Nowhere in the listing on Amazon does it indicate that.

When I was in ninth grade, we were taken to the library and told to choose a book so we'd have something to read between standardized tests. Instead of picking a book, I started screwing around in the library. Generally getting into trouble. Typical teen stuff.The librarian eventually nabbed me, and asked what sort of books I liked reading. For some reason that I still can't explain to this day, I thought that all the "cool" kids read science fiction. So that's what I said."Then you should read this book," she told me, handing me a fairly worn copy of 'Ender's Game,' and telling me that she loved it enough to re-read it every year.I wasn't thrilled with it, to be honest. The cover seemed kind of hokey. It smelled funny (hey, I was a kid). I had no idea what a "Hugo" or "Nebula" award might be. But the bell was ringing, testing would begin shortly, and I was kind of stuck for options. I checked out the book, and went on my way.I've always been a fast test taker, and so about an hour into a three-hour test I was done and bored. I opened the book and started reading. And a two hours later I was done.Up to that point, I'd read tons of books—mostly of the "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing" and "Encyclopedia Brown" variety. This was the first "grownup" fiction I'd ever read. And I was hooked. I went on to read everything I could find by Orson Scott Card. I wrote tons of short stories as creative writing assignments, all featuring Battle School or Ender himself. And I took what was a sorta-hobby of writing short stories and "books" (very short books, I assure you) and ended up turning it into a lifelong pursuit.And, like the librarian, I've taken to re-reading this book every year. I've given away more copies of this single book than I can count. And I've owned every English-language version of it ever released. It's a benchmark, life-shaping book for me.'Ender's Game' was the book that taught me that books could be what you do for a living. And for that, I'm incredibly grateful. My only regret is that I can't give it more than five stars.

One of my favorite books. I have read this several times over the last 15 years and enjoy it each time. It is a sci-fi story that very much reads like a "Harry Potter" coming of age story so I am sure Potter heads will love it too. There is a twist at the end I NEVER saw coming when I first read it in High School. I even named my cat Ender Wiggins to honor my favorite book character.Yes, there is a movie, and if you never read the book you will enjoy it but to be honest I enjoyed the movie more having read the book. That is rare, but it gave great visuals for what was hard to imagine in the book.Note: If you read and enjoy this book, check out Ender's Shadow. It is a parallel novel about the character Bean and is every bit of exciting.

This is an interesting book. Of course it is completely fictional and highly improbable, but the excellent writing allows you to get into the story and to feel a part of the action. There is a lot of political exaggeration from the supporting characters, but the main guy seems to be believable and make rational decisions. My biggest hangup with the character is that he functions well beyond his age. He is a child genius, so his thought processes and ability to meet certain challenges are acceptable, but, smart or not, maturity comes with age and experience, so his interactions with his superiors are not very likely.Still, an interesting concept with good writing. I recommend this book.And then I recommend you stop. I read the next few books in this series and, instead of good books with good stories, I found the main character to be increasingly self-righteous, over developed, condescending, and boring. I got the distinct impression that the author was taking a swipe at certain religious elements by giving the impression that Ender is something of a [self-centered] Messiah or Savior. This book: worthwhile and entertaining. The next ones: progressively disappointing and increasingly annoying.

Does it give you step by step instructions how to make all the great books it shows? NO!! and I am delighted that it doesn't. It does give examples and nice clear directions for some sample book shapes and ways to put a book together, and that is what you need. I find it mysterious that people want step by step moment by moment directions to slavishly copy someone else's book instead of looking at what they did and letting that inspire something that you can make yours.I know that people don't always have the experience of making a complicated book, but some of these are simple enough so that you can read the nicely written directions for the type of book and make something that you can build on. There are a million basic step by step books on making book forms out there, if you are desperate for one don't get this. However, if you have made a book or two and you want to do more, this book will inspire you and spur you on to make something of your own. Do it, you will be so glad you made something that is truly yours.Additionally, the contact information on all the makers shown here will put you into a pool of continuing ideas from the makers via their blogs or websites or instagram pages. Those probably won't give you step by step directions either, but inspiration is so much better!

AUGUSTUS is a surprisingly brisk read for a biography. Written by Anthony Everitt, AUGUSTUS does take a few liberties with the facts for example Everitt speculates that Livia didn't murder her husband but that it was an assisted suicide and there are also a few other speculations (supported with solid arguments I might add)sprinkled throughout the book but it is, for the most part, a very solid look back at the life of the "First Citizen" of Rome who contructed a political system that endured after his death and the turn over of other Emperors after him as well.At just under 370 pages it's also a surprisingly brief biography covering everything from Augustus' youth, relationship with Julius Ceasar (and the speculation that Augustus may have had an affair with his uncle to secure his uncle's affection and to get himself appointed heir to his uncle pointing out that it was unlikely but possible)to his consolidation of power after Ceasar's assassination, eventual war with Antony and ultimate domination of the Roman Empire.Everitt creates a compelling portrait of an emperor who refashioned the Roman Empire (to paraphrase) from clay into marble. The book comes with a chronology, illustrations of various maps and a family tree that will help those unfamiliar with Roman history a way to keep track of the various players.

Tony Everitt writes clean English. He gives up to date analysis on what Augustus was up to in his military campaigns and political reforms. This is not an easy feat given the recent explosion of high-grade research on Augustus. He has an appealing way of mixing into the action of Agustus' life descriptions of how Romans bathed, ate, and celebrated important rituals, such as the first shaving of a pubescent boy (Augustus did not shave until he was 24).I have only two comments for improvement. The first is that Agrippa does not get his full due. In Augustus: The Biography by Jochen Bleichen the author goes into depth on how intellectually powerful and sophisticated Agrippa was. He was learned in hydrology, and the arts. He once called Mycaena's promotion of Virgil as the pushing on to the public of a new form of bad taste. We need to learn more about Agrippa.The second comment is that Everitt tends to oversimplify the complexity of Agustus' first and second settlements and the mental exercise and logic behind them. For that you need to read Bleichen's book.I have a third critique but not for Everitt but rather for his "book designer" (whatever that means) Simon L. Sullivan. I am assuming Sullivan was in charge of typography. Whoever was, they should cower in shame. On many pages the baselines are not aligned. This is such an amateur error in typography that a first term student would get flunked. Even worse, many pages differ extremely in the number of lines on each page. Given such gross incompetence of typography it would be too much to ask for optical margin alignment to be used but that is a forlorn wish, as most people born after Word have no idea of what this means and almost everyone who worked on a Linotype is now long gone. InDesign has this as an option and I urge all typographers to use this.

I have read many books on Cesar and Octavian and love ancient Roman history. This book reads easily (sometimes it seems more a novel than a non-fiction book) and offers a great amount of information. However, I have to say that some of the claims the author makes seem personal theories or suppositions rather than true facts. Since there are not many footnotes, one cannot easily distinguish when the author is telling a proven fact or rather a likely fact or reason for a specific course of action. I would recommend this for someone for a "beginner" without much background on Augustus life. Someone more read or knowledgeable on Augustus' life might prefer a different book and will probably feel "shocked" of some of the claims.

I read Anthony Everitt's bio of Cicero, and am embarked on reading this one. My reaction from reading Cicero and my initial reaction from reading the first 20 or 30pages of Augustus is similar. That the author views much of his observations thru the prism of today's American society or ideals. Many of his observations , IMO, appear to be biased. Executing rivals may not be a pleasant thought, but some non-American societies to this day, continue that practice. It would be interesting if an Anthony Everitt were to write a bio of the American empire, in the year 4019.Nonetheless, for the reader who kas little knowledge of the Roman Republic, it provides much interesting insights to the working of the constitution, how it functioned, and how IMO, it was used as a template for our founding fathers.BTW, Cicero felt that the Roman constitution, was the greatest instrument ever devised.

While l am a fan of this and all of Anton Lavey's books, this one would probably be my least favourite. He goes off on a few rabbit trails and rambles a bit, sometimes to the point that you're not totally sure what he means. Still, there is plenty of knowledge and insight to be taken from Satan Speaks. lt was written when LaVey was an old man close to death, which means you get his final, most complete view of the given topics near the end of his life experience. Cynicism and sarcasm abound, as well as his trademark dark humour.

I've only just cracked it open and by the second essay I was feeling elated! This promises to be some of LaVeys best work. Upon reading "To: All Doomsayers...etc." I found myself getting more and more emotionally charged with each sentence. Nodding vigorously in agreement and say "yes! Yes!" With each statement. By the end I was practically jumping up and down and shouting "YES! HAIL SATAN!" I can't wait to get through the rest of this. So far, it's much better than the Devil's Notebook.

When I read this book, for some reason it makes me think about Anton packing his bags and saying "I'm done here." Especially the first few essays, when he talks about the apocalypse and how it's exactly how Christian America made it to be. I'm not sure exactly what this thought means, being as I don't believe in an afterlife. Perhaps his death was a departure from reality and then his vitality was transformed into our fond memories of him.Mr. La Vey was a very opinionated man and this work reflects that. It's as casual as a book can ever be and is funny too. I especially like the essay on how he dislikes music played in stereo rather than with a single speaker. I swear, he's the only person I've known who dislikes stereo. I own the Satanic Bible and have read it many times, despite being scared of it when I first bought it. Of all the books Anton wrote, I would give this one to people who are interested in Satanism but don't know where to start.

Here LaVey offers his opinions on a wide variety of subjects including social politics, sex, personal hygiene, social conventions, and life in general. Here he presents his opinions often with tongue in cheek humor. Some of his essays are utterly hilarious. Yet, he is often quite serious.LaVey hated pompousness, arrogance, and self righteousness and all throughout his writings he rips into these with a visciousness and rage that could only come from the devil. Having a high opinion of oneself is one thing, but that form of counterproductive, haughty self righteousness was what he hated most, what he called "The Goodguy Badge."His essay on stereo was interesting, "Stereo, Scam of the Century." When you read this essay, you might find yourself saying, "Hey, he's got a point." They introduced stereo not to improve the quality of music, but just to sell more record players and playing systems. And how many people really know the difference between a stereo recording and a mono recording of a piece of music anyway? Most of the time they are standing or sitting too far away from the speakers and not between them to even notice the difference.I myself prefer stereo since I usually do actually sit between the speakers. But I am quite different from most people. And sometimes I have actually noticed that some music really does sound better in mono than in stereo because the sound actually does tend to blend together.Reading and laughing at his essays, I often think, "He's got a point. I've seen that myself."Agree with his opinions or disagree, you will have fun reading this book, and learn a few things from an old carny.

It's pretty obvious that Anton LaVey is a genius. If you read his essays he basically solves all of the problems that no one could ever figure out and he explains things in a way that even slightly intelligent people can understand. One essay in particular explains how some of the most ridiculously behaved people's behavior can be explained by something like itchy skin, and he does it by examining a Tasmanian Devil. You seriously wish you were as awesome as he was way before you were conceived. If you read this book you deserve a thumbs up.

This book is profoundly disappointing. I was expecting some kind of interesting or challenging ideas from the essays in this book but LaVey sounds like someone's lonely, doddering grandpa who wants the kids these days to know about his opinions on mundane topics. I'm sure this book comes highly recommended from all of his friends at the senior center but it just isn't worth the money.

I am not a Satanist. LaVeyen satanism requires putting ones self above all else, which I cannot do. That being said, LaVey writes well and makes many good points. He was a rebel dedicated to the non-popular, against fleeting fads, and exercises the importance of the individual. He writes with humor, sarcasm and represents the views of the disenfranchised.

and a real inside perspective on the author, if not always coherent. Some times he makes sense, sometimes he doesn't...sometimes he's really showing his age and times he comes from, sometimes he's forward thinking. He isn't necessarily "Satanic" in my opinion (but neither am I), but I always enjoy reading what went on in this man's mind.
