Amazing oracle, and an amazing journey. I can't say enough about how much I love this deck. If you are of Celtic descent and want to know of the lore and energy of the Anglo/Celtic lands, this is for you. If you feel drawn to the Faery realms, and the elementals and green magick, then this is for you. If you feel drawn to this oracle at all, get it, because this deck will transform you, and is no doubt calling out to you.A few things I think are important to mention: The beings in the Faery realm and elementals and the green world are absolutely real. The beings on the cards do exist. Many of the images on the cards depict the appearance and the energy of beings that do exist in another dimension of reality. The other thing I will say is: Just because you finish using the cards and put them away for the night, that doesn't mean the faerys are locked away. They may visit you, and interact with you in many ways, so be prepared. This is not something to fear. In fact, knowing the faery realm is like getting to know another culture or foreign country. The people there aren't bad, they're just unknown to you until you get familiar with them. Same with the faery realm. You will get to know the different characters in the faery realm, and just stand back and be prepared for an amazing journey of a lifetime.As for the readings, the cards are beautiful, and convey lots of wisdom. They will speak to you in surprising and wonderful ways, always enlightening. Work with this deck, and let it work with you, and the journey will be an enchanted one.

Probably one of the most stunning decks I have ever seen! The drawings on the cards are more of an older style depiction that most people dislike. Some of these cards depict beings of light that make certain shapes, and other cards depict non-human like creatures that look a bit strange and unusual to most humans. The human-like features of some of them are still very strange, their legs may appear differently, animal like in nature (human-like on the top but also having frogs legs for example). If you're into this kind of style and depiction then this deck is for you. I feel that this really shows what some of the faerie may look like. Faerie is also a general term that relates to more than just human-like people with wings, it relates to all manner of creatures that would be considered otherworldly. So you have gnomes and tree spirits in this deck as well as little people with wings or even creatures with wings or what some would consider goblins. Either way, they have a very interesting way of coming across to people. The people who didn't like this deck I think were expecting something humanly beautiful. But these beings are not humans, they are other creatures depicted on these cards. Expect unusual appearances here! For me, that's what makes this deck so unique, it is what I love about this deck, because it isn't based on a Victorian style of fairy, but instead of a more natural appearance in nature. I've used this deck a few times already and I truly feel this deck speaks to me with the faeries depicted. As a lover of older lore, I am in love with these cards!

This is my #1 favorite divination/oracle/deck though runes are a very close second. I love love love this book and the cards! They are always on point, often surprising me! What really makes this for me is the writing. Jessica Macbeth does an amazing job. The beginning is a very interesting and fun read, I couldn't put it down. And each card has a very long, explicit explanation - about each fairy themselves and then about the reading. I often travel with this deck and purchase it as a gift for friends. I have the "The Heart of Faerie Oracle" deck as well and I don't love that one. This one is my "go to", again because of the writing. Of course - there is no absolutely denying that Brian Froud is an amazing artist and this deck would not be what it is without his illustrations. I *heart* The Faeries' Oracle!!

One of my all time favorite movies is the Dark Crystal. I was 100% committed to purchasing this deck when I learned that the artist (from the movie) had created an Oracle deck of Faeries. I am speechless at the beauty of Brian Froud's artwork. The set is very affordable and the included hardcover guidebook is worth the price alone! The cards, though stunning, are thin so I recommend being gentle when handling them. I chose not to bridge shuffle for this reason. The cards also have a matte finish so they do not fan well. I tend to pick my cards using the "cutting the deck" method or I carefully lay out each of the cards to simulate "fanning". Both the cards and the guidebook come housed in a sturdy cardboard box perfect for storage between uses. I use these cards so much that they haven't found their way back into their box since the day they were delivered. The set only cost me $15 so I've been wanting to buy a second deck as a backup or for traveling. What an amazing find!

I feel like I was slightly mislead about this book when I first started it, and so I started out this book with disappointment that just never went away as I kept reading. There is literally nothing to suggest that this book takes place in modern-day society, and yet it does. When I hear the words “viking”, my first thought is that this is going to be historical or set in a fantasy world drawn from history.Instead, I felt let down to realize that the books take place current day. The writing is addicting, and I did get hooked into the story, but there were other things that cropped up along the way that kept me from fully enjoying this book as much as I wanted to.This story is about Tess. She believed that she was an orphan and had been placed in foster homes as a child. She’s spent her whole life on the run, starting anew, and trusting no one but herself. When an ex-boyfriend (and old childhood friend she met while in foster care) shows up one day and essentially kidnaps her and takes her to a family she’s never known, her entire world changes.This is where the backstory gets a bit confusing. It’s one of those moments where you feel like a lot is explained in the book, and at the same time, feel like nothing is explained. There are mysterious children abduction involved, psychic abilities, and a nobody discovering she’s the heir and needs to learn how to be Queen with the help of two very fine gentlemen. It’s a very riveting premise that promises a MFM ménage in this book, but it just feels like a lot of the backstory is sacrificed for sex scenes.Honestly, I can take or leave sex scenes in romance books. For me, it’s more about getting to know the characters and getting a sense of who they are and learning the world-building. There are time jumps and explanations for things that get shrugged off and we, as the reader just has to accept them. I found it hard to get a real grasp on all the characters, and why they do what they do. One of Tess’s suitors is her childhood friend (and ex) called Harvey. Her other suitor is a man called Oliver. Everything is extremely rushed, and Tess is somehow immediately agreeing with everything her family is telling her. She doesn’t know them, and during her kidnapping to bring her in, she was drugged.Everything is brushed aside, and we’re expected to believe that everything’s perfect. Because the main point of the story is Tess getting together with Harvey and Ollie. It’s very disappointing. The story is intriguing, but the writing choices just don’t work for me. The secondary characters are interesting, and even with the fact that book two stars Tess, Harvey, and Ollie again, and this time with a MMF storyline…it’s not enough to make me want to read a second book.

For reasons still unknown by me, I have been avoiding menage romance. I will probably still be wary of it in the future, but I'm just going to write it off as personal preference and keep it moving. But THIS one? It was AMAZING.I was sucked in from the very beginning. The author's world building is pretty amazing. It goes back and forth from "visions" in the past to modern-day. Contessa is a Viking queen with psychic (and other) abilities. She's had a hard life, which has unwittingly prepared her to rule over and protect her small but resilient people. The men she loves, Ollie and Harvey, are so swoony! Each loves her fiercely, and wants to protect her, but also realize her full potential. These big, strapping, powerful men willingly come to heel, and it's breathtaking to read.The Sex is amazing, by the way. I think part of my skepticism (personal bias, let me just say that) regarding menage stories is that it will essentially be porn without plot. Um...foot, meet mouth. Because this author did what I didn't think was possible: she convinced me that three people could sustain a healthy, faithful, sexy, romantic relationship. The men are reluctant, but come to see how they are better as three (which actually is a huge plot point I won't spoil any further).There is some suspense, lots of steam, lovely romance, action...and my favorite bit: Women rule this world.The Viking Queen's Men is the first paranormal romance I've read in years, and I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.

The Viking Queen's Men is an M/F/M romance that I grabbed as a freebie the other day. I kept seeing people raving about this on romance Twitter so I started reading it right away since I'm still in the mood for fantasy romance. The main character in the book is a queen of a psychic group of people descended from Vikings. She was stolen from her family as a child and the story starts with her return to the community. She needs a mate to help balance her abilities. What came as a surprise to everyone involved was she had two fated mates instead of just one. Why have a long triangle when you can have a menage instead?😂👌🏼 It had an interesting premise but overall, it was a so-so read for me. Both the worldbuilding and character development fell short for me. Glad I gave this a try but not planning to read the rest of the series.

I wish I could give this four stars, because I really like the story and where it looks like the series is headed, but there are too many editing errors. I started highlighting all of the errors I came across, which will probably mess up some sort of Kindle stats, for which I apologize. Also, this author (and her editors) really need to learn when to use "whom". (Hint: Not as often as she thinks.)I like the story, especially how Tess didn't immediately take to her new role; she has believable stumbles along the way. I also really liked how she dealt with Harvey and Ollie.I want to read more of this series so that I can find out what happens with these three, and what happens with the conflict that was introduced at the end of the book. I really hope the editing issues are taken care of in later books in the series. If anyone can tell me that, I'd love to hear about it in a comment.If you're not bothered by editing issues, and like reading hot sex, of both the m/f and m/f/m variety, plus a bit of the paranormal go grab this. You won't be sorry.

This thesaurus, unlike some of the other thesauri available for Kindle, is fully searchable. The search feature works in much the same way as the default dictionary, and I think it's well worth the reasonable price.The entries are comprehensive with many Synonyms and Related Words provided, as well as Antonyms and Near Antonyms.I won't compare this thesaurus to other thesauri in print version, but I will say that it's the best thesaurus for Kindle at the time of writing this review. Roget's Super Thesaurus (Kindle Edition), for example, has excellent entries with long lists of synonyms, however it is not searchable and the format appears somewhat cluttered when viewed on the Kindle.After reading through various user reviews and testing sample content, I finally had narrowed down my choice to either Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Thesaurus or WordNet 3 (largest English dictionary and thesaurus). However by comparing the sample content my decision quickly became obvious. WordNet 3 is also searchable and has the added advantage of making all Synonyms links to their main entries. However, it has very lack-lustre lists of Synonyms, and according to some of the other reader reviews, relatively common words missing entirely.At any rate I am pleased with this thesaurus and would happily recommend to anybody who is looking for a thesaurus on their Kindle.

Happily, content link has been implemented in this thesaurus and works in e-book form. A reference document is particularly disappointing in electronic format when a proper search function is neglected by the publisher. Someone (a copy editor) must build the hyper-links inside the digital media. Most publishers cheat and skip that part because it requires some work (and expense) above and beyond dumping the native digital format to .mobi (kindle) format.Most of the other (thesauri?) that I downloaded, tried and then returned did NOT perform a useful search for a word. Almost all claim to be searchable because the functionality of the kindle allows it to build an index based on a user input word or phrase. But that is the difference between an index (all occurrences of the word) and a table of contents (a specific location for the topic). The index approach used by almost all others can be overwhelming, sometimes dozens of occurrences of a word - without any indication of which entry is the 'location' for the expected list of synonyms.Curiously, 'parts of speech' such as: 'noun', 'verb', 'adjective', DO result in an index compilation, even in this volume. Virtually anything else will take you directly to the digital 'location' containing the synonyms, example uses, etc. A search for the word "comprehend", for example, yielded 32 synonyms and ~â…” 'page' (8.9" kindle fire HDX, small font) of definition; adjectives and noun forms of the word each have their own separate page. I'm not a writer (Engineer... vocabulary challenged) so I can not comment reliably on the comprehensiveness of this thesaurus compared to others, but this e-book's ability to do contents SEARCH rather than INDEX seems to me to be essential - and so I recommend it! It seems to cost more than the rest; part of that is the cost of the copy editor's good work, and worth it!

I really enjoy having the "old school" hardcover reference books on the shelf. I keep this as a back-up just in case I am not near a device with internet access to look up a word. Or, you can keep this book on hand just in case someone wants to use a reference by book only. Print size is decent and the book has the most up-to-date verbiage.

I use this together with Laurence Urdang and Nancy Laroche's "Synonym Finder," and keep versions on my kindle and laptop.The other work provides more synonyms in most cases, and you scroll down through various contexts in which the researched word turns up.This thesaurus is great, though, for having as well, headings for: synonyms, near antonyms, related words.As well, each entry gives the part of speech for the word, and a reference to a labelled context. For example, the word "gossip" (n) will give a list of synonyms and related words and refer us to "chat" and "rumour".It's a little different from Roget's, using which one can, as well, trace for the meaning of a word "on the tip of your tongue" via very general categories and concepts of the meaning. This is NOT a Thesaurus this is a dictionary. When I use a thesaurus it's when I know a word but that word does not give the exact meaning I want. A good thesaurus will give the words to chose from for proper shading of meaning I want. I have a dictionary if I want to know what the word means. (1sd Edition is worn out from use in the office.) 2nd edition is a HUGE disappointment.

It said this book was searchable but I couldn't figure out how to do it. If you want to literally page through 100s of pages to find your word it would be alright. It's much easier to use an online thesaurus where I can type in a word and find alternatives. This would be great as a physical book but as an ebook it sucks.

I find myself resorting to Google because most of what I'm looking for isn't in this thesaurus. Far too much space is given to definitions, that's what the dictionary is for. I regret buying this as it's just not very useful for me.

My mother was a mediocre cook. I was not confident in the kitchen even though I read cookbooks galore. Success was rare and repeating the success was even more elusive! Cook's Illustrated takes all the work out of finding a simplified foolproof recipe. They experiment with one basic recipe, say, banana bread, and make the recipe over and over tweakingingredients and amounts or mixing methods until the staff agrees it is perfect. Then, they make it over again to be sure the perfect results can be easily replicated! This is just what you would do if you had time, patience, and a well stocked pantry! But the America's Test Kitchen knows culinary science, has resources and shares the experience with you! Interesting to read, and educational! And every recipe turns out delicious! Yep, haven't been disappointed!I can invite friends to stay with us and know the fried eggs will be delicious, the meatloaf, perfect and any recipe I make from this book will be enjoyed without making up excuses!I have ordered many more of the Cooks' Illustrated and America's Test Kitchen Books after having remarkable success with this first book! I highly recommend these books.

Having been a Cook's Illustrated magazine subscriber since 1995, I can attest that this book is an excellent collection of their best recipes. Over the years, I have personally made a very high percentage of them, many have become routine at my house, and flipping through this book for the first time felt like visiting with lots of old friends; 99% of the book is comprised of recipes I would have chosen myself had I been in charge of this project. Each recipe is accompanied by a full essay detailing the testing that went into the recipe, what worked, what didn't, and other useful information. A side benefit of all that information is that, as you cook through the recipes, you gain techniques and knowledge that can be applied to any recipe, whether a family heirloom recipe or one from another source, that will improve your chances of success and your cooking in general. The book is printed in color on heavy paper, with a thick hardbound cover - it weighs 7 pounds! I have thoroughly enjoyed cooking from and learning so much from Cook's Illustrated over the years and I am delighted to have this book as a commemoration.

Back in the dark ages, I graduated college with a double major in home economics and English. Don't even know if home economics is offered in colleges these days but I do believe people still cook. I ordered this book along with two others from Cook's and believe me this particular cookbook might be the only one you ever need to own. The techniques are all spelled out in easy terms that anyone can understand, even the first time cook. The book is extensive and large. It would make an excellent wedding or housewarming gift. The most important reason to own this book is that each recipe has a clear explanation about what technique to use to make the dish correctly without any trial and error. You can't go wrong. You know each recipe will be right the first time. I learned so much and I am still not finished with the book.

I’ll start by making a couple of confessions—first, I am a cookbook JUNKIE! I read them cover to cover and hang on every word. Second—I love Cook’s Illustrated. They explain everything—starting with what was wrong with a recipe to send them on quests to find a way to build a better ratatouille. An example from this new volume—how to make a lemon meringue pie with “weepless” meringue AND where no “puddles” form to ruin the crust. These folks know their stuff—and when still stymied—they reach outside the test kitchen & seek advice from food scientists—as was the case with the lemon meringue pie. I don’t always agree with what they do—often they’re looking for ways to reduce the time required to prepare a recipe, and that’s not what I look for when cooking—but, let’s face it, most cooks today ARE looking for that, so a definite positive for this book. And I’m pretty certain my cinnamon bread is better—but I’ll make theirs to be certain...Unlike most Cook’s Illustrated publications, this volume contains gorgeous photographs—I think every dish has an accompanying photo. There are at lease two dozen recipes that I have ear marked to try—that’s quite a few for this addict on a first read through. Buy this book! It’s destined to become a classic!

When I first heard about this book while the author was on his book tour, he was described as this kid who'd been unable to find a job as a journalist who had flown to Somalia. So, I had thought this book was an account of how he'd survived after doing this incredibly stupid thing. But in reality he was much smarter than that, he planned his adventure so he had a greater than 50 percent chance of coming home. He hooked up with a local agency that provided him with UN trained bodyguards, secure housing, translators, clan access. So, he wasn't stupid which makes the book much more interesting to read. You get the sense that the local people appreciate that an outsider sat down and let them tell their story, even if their story strains credibility frequently. It is a remarkably fair and balanced account. It is a lively fact-based story.Where it failed for me was the epilogue where he comes to the conclusion that the solution to the problem is a generous influx of cash with few strings attached. The solution to most problems -- the US educational system, third world garbage pickers, the end to our reliance on fossil fuels, unemployment -- could all be fixed by massive influxes of non-judgmental cash. One more set of people with their hand out, saying just trust us, we'll make somebody's life better, we'll get back to you on that, doesn't really convince me at this point.

"Pirates of Somalia" is a stupefyingly audacious book. Actually, it brings it a far bit short to call Jay Bahadur's work simply a "book." It's more life-altering project. Bored writing marketing reports, he conceives an idea to fly to Somalia and get the straight scoop on this international phenomenon by talking directly to its protagonists. Amazingly, he finds a willingness in the people he writes to and - a mere weeks later - he's winging it into a nearly ungovernable country meeting up with contacts heretofore unseen. Say what you want about the book's execution, but in terms of sheer audacity of action: Hats off, my man. Bravo.I knew I was in the right place when Bahadur's references Aidan Hartley's The Zanzibar Chest early on. I view Hartley's book as a masterpiece of reporting and memoir. It's easily one of the best five books I've read. Bahadur quotes a passage in which Hartley "describes in chilling detail the life-and-death importance of clan lineage during the worst days of the [Somalian civil] war." If you see Hartley as your model, I'm in.Bahadur focuses his reporting on the Puntland State of Somalia, the hotbed of piracy. He seeks to cover what he enumerates as the "four main causes explain[ing] the rise of piracy in Puntland: geopolitics, environmental factors, economic adversity, and breakdown of governance." What makes the book sing: this is no armchair analysis from a comfortable, far-away seat. This is face-to-face, winning-hearts-and-minds, chew-the-khat, ride-the-Toyota Surf-to-the-small-village, meet-the-elders, hire-the-bodyguards-and-translators reporting. Very, very well done.

For those who are interested in how and why the Pirates gotstarted....it's a good book. Some of the book is a little boring....but I did get through it. Thepirate "business models" seemed a little contrived....but who knows...they may be "right on"I liked his discriptions of the towns and some of the characters he met. The bottom line of this review is that if you liked any of Riordan's previous books you'll like this one also. It has all the features we've come to love about Riordan's books. We have young protagonists who are suddenly empowered with great abilities but are at the same time expected to deal with great challenges and shoulder enormous responsibilities. They are aided by more mature allies but ultimately they shoulder the burden alone. The action is fast paced and almost non stop with frequent changes of locale both in the familiar mundane world and a fantasy world. Much use is made of ancient myths and legends (in the present case Egyptian) which are contrasted sharply with and integrated curiously into modern times. The latter is a primary source of the book's humor.There are a few things that a prospective reader should be aware of. First, the book is the second of a three volume series; they should be read in order for maximum enjoyment and the least confusion. None of Riordan's series can be jumped into at any point. Second, Riordan in this series changes points of view between siblings Carter and Sadie every two chapters. It can be a little difficult to climb out of one character's head and into another if reading for extended periods. Third, like all Riordan books the present book is heavily (and ingeniously) plotted so there is more than a little demand on the reader's attention; read at least a chapter or two at a sitting.Highly recommended. Adults and children alike can enjoy this series.

As a huge fan of Percy Jackson, I was so excited to continue the adventure with The Heroes of Olympus. After reading this book, the first in the series, I'm neither satisfied nor disappointed. It was nice to dive back in to the world of Camp Half-Blood but I just couldn't get too involved with the new characters like I did with Percy and his crew. I also purchased the second book to try and get more into it, that book will determine whether I continue the series or not.As for if I would recommend this book, I'd say it's worth a try. :-)

I love a good book. My favorites are usually modern day stories about normal people with a little bit of magic thrown in to make it interesting. I originally started reading the Percy Jackson series because my granddaughter liked the movie. So I bought her the series and we read at least a chapter or two every time we spend a few hours together. My girl does most of the reading and I sort of explain the parts or words she doesn't understand. We've almost finished all of the Percy Jackson series. And I must confess, since I read just a bit faster, I've moved onto the Lost Hero series. It started a bit slower than the other books. But as I read the story I found myself wondering how it was going to play out. Greek mythology is just as fascinating as Roman mythology. I like that they're being mixed together and how these series are overlapping. The message I see in both series is one of honesty, and friendship and trust. The concept of right and wrong should be installed into young people at an early age. Age appropriate explanations of actions and consequences. These books have helped my granddaughter, who is just about 8 years old, to learn to think about what will happen once she has said or done something. I'm thankful there are stories that have captured her interest and attention. She is also beginning to understand that the lessons these books are helping her to learn will help her throughout her life!! That is the best compliment I can give to any author and his/her stories.

Rick Riordan starts another great story! I am a great fan of Percy Jackson, and was excited to see a new series. The author introduces new characters but has not changed his style of getting you to know and care about them, until they become real people to the reader. Too many dismiss books nowadays as copies or derivatives of older well known works. In that light , everything can be considered a copy of something else. I always approach a book or series to see if it can grab my attention and invest me in the story or characters. Rick Riordan has not disappointed me yet.

I really like Rick Riordan's books, starting with Percy Jackson series. I like that he uses mythology and humour in his books. I have always loved mythology and this is a great series to get my sons reading. In fact, it was my oldest son and my sister who got me into Riordan's books.This is the second book of the Kane's Series/Egyptian Mythology. This is written in first person from each sibling's point of view (POV). Each chapter is a different POV. Some writers have a hard time writing different voices for their characters and when they try this the characters sound the same. However, Riordan does a good job of keeping Sadie and Carter's voice distinct.I bought this one to replace the one that disappeared. It has been awhile since I read the Kane Series.
