It's a fairly comprehensive book, though repetitive at times. Has a good number of drills; I wish I had the time to do them.

Odd metaphors and connections described to the reader so they can understand a certain hand position

Well it was bought for a class and while not the most exciting book. It does explain basics. I would save my money though as most likely it has nothign that you won't learn in a class or lesson.

Very useful / instructive. A "must read" for anyone serious about learning and/or teaching badminton.

Worst book written for Badminton, a total waste of time and money, after four hours I still know what the hell he was saying???

Was looking for a book that was not so basic. For beginners. I felt the write up totally miss sold me on the book.

This book was required reading for one of my college courses. It meet my expectations & was what the professor intended.

The book was new but wow shipping took over two weeks and it said the book was in stock. Good deal if you have the time to wait for it to get to you.

Several years ago, at a doctor's waiting room, I've picked up a Golf magazine; don't know why - never played golf.There was Mr. Feherty's "article".Well..................I made a fool of myself - I was laughing hard and loud, people were rolling their eyes..... I couldn't stop laughing.Then, I've bought ALL his books.....I have many joke books...................NONE gives me as much laughs as any of the Mr. Faherty's books.Thank you!!! :):):)

David Feherty has such wit and personality which kept me laughing and interested throughout this book. If you are a golf fan with a great sense of humor, you will love all his books...especially this one.

Some memorable lines in here, but it gets predictable pretty quickly. Funny, light stories, but not much novelty

What Were the Roaring Twenties?     Not every period in United States history is special enough to have a nickname. But the 1920s has more than one. These years are called the Roaring Twenties, the Jazz Age, and even the New Era. Why? What made this time so special? What made the twenties roar?   It’s because these years were exciting . . . fun . . . dangerous . . . and even silly. There were crazy fads such as flagpole sitting, which started in 1924 when stuntman Alvin “Shipwreck” Kelly took a dare from a friend. He sat on top of a flagpole for thirteen hours and thirteen minutes. Soon Kelly was hired all across the United States to repeat the stunt. Other daredevils imitated him, competing for money. Records were set for twelve days, seventeen days, and even twenty-one days, with food sent up in baskets. Huge crowds gathered to watch.   There were also dance marathons, often called “bunion derbies” or “corn and callus carnivals.” For twenty-five cents, spectators watched couples dance for hours, days, or sometimes even weeks. After a while, all that contestants could do was shuffle their feet or cling to the necks of their partners and be dragged along. All to earn the first-place prize money.   The twenties also were known for thrilling feats of a more important nature. In 1927, pilot Charles Lindbergh became the first to f ly nonstop across the Atlantic Ocean—and he did it all alone in a small plane that didn’t even have a parachute.    Most of all, the 1920s were famous for good times—listening to jazz bands in nightclubs, dancing the Charleston, dashing around in newly affordable automobiles, and following the lives of glamorous Hollywood movie stars. However, the good times didn’t last. On October 29, 1929, it all came crashing down, in an abrupt and terrible end.     Chapter 1: After the Great War      The 1920s certainly didn’t start out being a whole lot of fun. In the beginning of the decade, the United States was recovering from two terrible disasters.   The first was World War I, which ended in 1918 with over seventeen million people dead, both soldiers and civilians. The United States joined the war near the end, but in only nineteen months, more than one hundred thousand US soldiers were killed fighting overseas and another two hundred thousand were wounded.   Then a different, totally unexpected enemy appeared: the Spanish flu. This deadly strain of the flu virus spread quickly around the world. It killed 675,000 people in the United States, far more than the war had.   The flu killed very quickly, within hours or days. Most of its victims were young, healthy adults. New Yorker Lillian Goldsmith often recalled that her sister Vivian “was dancing at a party on Friday and dead on Monday.” At first, the symptoms seemed like any other flu, with fever and headaches. Sometimes patients recovered. But if they didn’t, their lungs and internal organs were destroyed, and their bodies would turn blue.    There was no cure.   After so much tragedy, many people—especially the young and the returning soldiers—were desperate to have a good time. They blamed the horrible war on the older generation. Now was the time to leave the past behind.   It took a little while for the twenties to really roar. After the war, the US economy went into a slump. Factories that once had been working overtime to provide weapons and supplies for American troops closed. Companies went out of business. People lost their jobs. Returning soldiers looking for work added to the numbers of unemployed.   The government, however, found ways to help. And by 1921, the economy turned around. There were more jobs, which put more money in the pockets of the American public. A spending boom began. The New Era had arrived.     Chapter 2: Women Voters     On August 18, 1920, there was a dramatic change in the lives of American women: They were finally granted the right to vote. It was a right they had spent over seventy years fighting to win. With the vote, women had the power to change laws and to take a greater part in government. This led to a greater desire to take control of their lives. Women stepped out of the shadows of their parents and husbands. They went out by themselves, without any chaperones to supervise them on dates. More girls went to college. In 1918, only 13,491 women earned a college degree. In 1930, the number had climbed to 55,266.   Before the war, jobs for women had been limited. The poor had to settle for low-paying jobs, such as doing housework in other people’s homes. For middle-class women, nursing and teaching were among the few careers open to them. Being a doctor, lawyer, or head of a company was practically unheard of.   During the war, however, women had taken the jobs of men fighting overseas. They were streetcar operators. They worked in shipyards, steel mills, and factories that made guns and ammunition. Although many of those jobs were lost when the men came back, more and more women kept on collecting paychecks. They found other careers. Growing businesses now needed secretaries, stenographers, typists, and file clerks in their offices. These jobs were usually filled by women.   While most women still stayed at home to take care of their families, their lives changed a lot, too, during the 1920s. New inventions made it possible to spend less time doing chores and to have more time for fun.    Electricity had been lighting up city streets since the late 1800s. Now more private homes became wired for electricity. Housekeeping became much easier with electric appliances like washing machines, stoves, refrigerators, vacuum cleaners, and sewing machines.   In 1924, Clarence Birdseye invented frozen foods. Meals became easier to prepare—they didn’t have to be made from scratch. Convenient products like Wonder Bread, Welch’s Grape Jelly, Kool-Aid, and Rice Krispies came on the market.    There was a huge revolution in women’s fashions. Before, women wore stiff, heavy clothing—dresses with high collars, big sleeves, tight corsets, and bulky, floor-length skirts. Now women wanted loose, comfortable clothes so they could do the new fast dances like the bunny hop, the Charleston, and the Lindy. They wanted to play sports. They didn’t want to spend a lot of time getting dressed. Young women began wearing short dresses made of lightweight fabrics that hung loose on their bodies. These new styles were much easier to wear. Mannish styles like tailored suits became popular. Some women even wore pants! A lot of older people were absolutely scandalized!   Women changed their hair as well as their clothes. In the past, proper ladies had kept their long hair pinned on top of their heads. Now girls all over the country were inspired by movie stars like Clara Bow. They cut their hair in a short, sleek style called a bob. A bob was easier to care for and felt freer, which was perfect for the new, independent American woman. Opera singer Mary Garden said in an interview, “Bobbed hair belongs to the age of freedom, frankness, and progressiveness.” Since there weren’t a lot of hair salons, young ladies stood in long lines outside of men’s barbershops to get their hair cut.   These modern young women became known as flappers. No one knows for sure where the name came from, but everyone in the ’20s knew what it meant. Flappers wore makeup, drove cars, and went to lots of parties. They drank cocktails and smoked cigarettes. Everything they did was considered unladylike. But they didn’t care about breaking old rules—or new ones. They flocked to speakeasies and nightclubs, where they could buy drinks, even though Prohibition had made it against the law, something you could be arrested for.

I had no idea that the humbler mason jar (which I've used for many decades for everything from storage to tea to canning to casual flower arrangements had become the "new" must have cooking accessory, or that so many cook books would appear. Curious about the "genre" I purchased this cook book as a gift for a friend who is always in a hurry to get to work and who I thought could use it to speed his lunch prep. While it is useful for dressing recipes, and for tips and tricks as well as how to advice, as well as information on types of jars, the recipes leave much to be desired since any reasonably imaginative cook could dream up the combinations. What is important is to layer in (tightly) the various salad ingredients in reverse order from the usual order in a bowl. Thus, when you empty it out into a bowl, the ingredients that you normally put on the top come out on the top. Ms. Fazio even suggest putting the dressing at the bottom of the jar and then layering in on top. In the interests of food preservation and also keeping your salad fresh, keep it in a separate container, or use one of the jars (now on the market) which carry a small jar in the top which gets sealed separately. Where Ms. Fazio and I really part company is in her comment about "I buy a lot of my food premade, such as precut veggies." Honestly? Gee, you can buy prepackaged salads too, but the point of doing the Mason jar thing is to have fresh food, and you can buy a various fruits and veg and prep them in advance, then package them up yourself for the refrigerator. This allows you to use organic produce, to make sure that everything is washed, and buying a head of cauliflower will certainly be cheaper than a pre-chopped up plastic wrapped package. The only compromise that seems appropriate would be for those with arthritic hands who may wish to purchase cut up winter squash or other produce that may be hard to peel.There are lots of good suggestions for how to make oatmeal and/or porridge for breakfast, as well as smoothies. Presumably other types of grains, such as bulghur wheat, or couscous could be treated similarly.

I've been really surprised by how high-calorie these recipes are. I've only found one so far that wasn't basically flavorless. Pretty disappointing.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this cookbook. This was such a unique cookbook. There was not one recipe I wouldn't try and I can't wait to get going with it. Recipes ranged from simple salads to desserts/snacks and all sizes of mason jars.Just a really unique cookbook. I love when I can get these on sale and I was able to grab the kindle version for a fraction of the cost!

Enjoyed reading this! Read all my cookbook like a novel, then go back and flag special ones I want to try first. There were several in the"me first"category. I have canned,froze, and dehydrated foods-but not as a dinner in a jar-I think it will be fun!,

Expected much more. Just the same old stuff. There is nothing in this book worth the price, it's all available online for free.

Although some of the ideas are nobrainers, there were a few things I really loved, like cocktails and fruit crisps in jars.I recently started a job for one day a week in which I cannot leave the client house for 10 hours, and have been obsessing over what to eat. Consequently I’ve been stocking up on all the snack stuff that I usually don’t eat. The color photos in this book and the variety will serve as inspiration to create a few tasty meals.

I have started in the Salads section of this book and am LOVING it! If you are struggling, as I was, to get more fruits and veggies into your diet this makes it so simple. The recipes are varied and mostly pretty simple. I love being able to just grab one out of the fridge for a satisfying ready-made lunch or dinner. There's a lot more in this book besides salads so there's something for everybody.

It's an absolute must have for any Gilmore Girls fan. After the depressive mood that the end of season 7 left us with by bringing with it the end of the show, Coffee at Luke's brings Stars Hollow back to our lives making sure that no details about life in this charming little town are left forgotten.It's a practical Gilmore Girls manual. I was afraid this book would be nothing but a repetition of all I knew about GG already, after having devotedly seen all seven seasons of the show. Instead, I came upon a pleasant writing, offering a different view of the show. An outside, real life view, not a fictional Stars Hollow citizen one. As being the Pop Culture references one of the major highlights of this show, the reference glossary on the back of this book will delight any pop culture fan and remind us of Amy Sherman-Palladino's wittily written dialogues that Lorelai and Rory gave life to.

My daughter loves the Gilsmore Girls so I got this as a gift for her. Unfortunately, theres bad language in this book so she couldn’t read it all, what a shame

I'm sitting here reading this book now and it's the best background primer you can get on what is happening in today's news, what caused it, and what we can do about it. Any candidate for office would be well-advised to study it carefully for a deeper understanding of his or her own responsibilities. Amply footnoted, it withstands the critique of the skeptic and the praise of the patriot. I bought it for my family and sent it to my friends as a must read for such a time as this.

Not western societies and culture! This well written book by Jay Sekulow simply explains the mortal threat of a Russia- Islamic axis to western civilization. He begins with a concise history of the Middle East from the Ottoman Empire up to today. After explaining Middle Eastern events in the last one hundred years he shifts to Islam and the Iranian Islamic Revolution.This reading brought back memories of the research I conducted 25 years ago while studying Islam for my war college thesis. Mr. Sekulow in a very short time explains a very complicated subject to westerners who have not been paying attention to world events in the last 40 years. One thing that is absent from this book, which should be included, is the Crusades of the 12th and 13th Century where westerners conquered a peaceful Caliphate of the Levant and it took 88 years to evict them. Page 141 illustrates Khamenei promising Israel's destruction in 25 years from 2009, 88 years!One of the main points of this book is Islam, a shame culture, very similar to the Japanese Culture prior to WWII. The honor and-shame tactics that drove Japanese soldiers to use kamikaze suicide tactics and a pattern of using suicide attacks rather than surrendering are inherent in this culture which we are witnessing world wide today. Sekulow is warning westerners of the coming movement by the Islamics for -complete world domination. Iran has been entered into alliances with Syria and now Russia to wage war on western allies and Israel. It is interesting the latter a 90% Orthodox Christian country in bed with an Islamic global movement?This book is required reading to every westerner or people who enjoy personal liberties as a wake-up call for what will come! What will come is a global reckoning chess match with radical Islam that is fast approaching! Sekulow is ringing the alarm, Wake up!

I thought I understood the centuries old conflict in the Middle East. Well, I didn’t. 9/11 opened Americans’ eyes, but we quickly shut them. BIG mistake. Sekulow takes readers back to the very beginning, eons ago, and explains where this conflict was born and why. America, WAKE UP! Your great-great grandchildren need to learn what is taught in this book from their great-great grandparents NOW, or there won’t BE a U.S. of A in 100 years. If this ideology persists: to destroy all Western culture and have everyone bow to one god we don’t believe in (or at least have the RIGHT to choose not to, or the right not to believe in one at all), and follow laws in a book that are ludicrous (not to mention a society that treats women as sub-par humans), then we are truly doomed. Read this book—it WILL open your eyes.

An excellent analysis of the current global chess match. I don't believe there is a more timely book on the market, as the narrative addressed in this book unfolds daily in the newspapers.

On the face of it, this book is an introduction to the Middle East with special emphasis on "Islamic terrorism." The current conflicts involve both acts of individuals and the acts of nations. Nations typically act from worldly purposes different from the religious purposes of individual terrorists. The author wants to show us the cause of the current turmoil and where it is headed. This book is one of a genre, and reading it, you need to consider possible baked-in assumptions. Some readers will find my summaries boring, but I'm dealing with a general introductory book and want to get everything straight.The author starts with an introductory sketch of Middle East history, beginning in the nineteenth century when, he says, the Ottoman Empire, that great Islamic realm, began to decline, up to the present. (Actually the Empire was declining well before then with the siege of Vienna in 1688.) During World War I, it collapsed entirely; its fate was left to Britain and France, who decided how to be divide it between them. The author's recap covers the history up to today. There are a couple of errors and omissions. The author explains British interest in Arabia as due to oil although there were no oil discoveries there until the 1930s. Also the author could have at least devoted a couple of sentences to the Arab-Jewish disturbances of 1922, 1929, and especially 1937-1939, which did much to create inter-group hostility.Of course a bare historical narrative does not do much to explain Islamist terror. The explanation is in theology. The God of Islam is very austere. There is no Trinity as in Christianity [to link the divine and the human] and no doctrine of grace or of personal conscience." The impersonal and distant nature of Allah engenders a ritualistic and formal religion in which the individual can have no hope of personal salvation through faith alone. Instead, a Muslim must secure salvation through his works." (p.43) (There is some disagreement on the question of faith vs. good works. The reader may want to look at other sources.) In addition, "Islamic culture is a "shame culture". In a shame culture , individuals are encouraged to take any course of action necessary to avoid public shame, even if it requires secret wrongdoing, because the extrinsic value of honor is more important than intrinsic values of truth, justice, and whether one is actually guilty." (p. 46) Jihad and "martyrdom" (meaning being killed in the act of jihad) are certain ways to get into heaven. (p. 45) All of this is supported by references (the book is saturated with footnotes.)After a chapter on Sharia (to me irrelevant), the author tackles the question of ex-President G. W. Bush's characterization of Islam as "a religion of peace." The Quran contains multiple verses that command peace -- as well as violence. Muhammad had some followers in the earlier part of his life, in Mecca, and the Quranic verses of that period teach a message of peace and forgiveness; but his life was difficult because Mecca was a center of polytheistic worship. He and his (then) few followers fled to Medina. "He began receiving revelation that taught outward struggle, or jihad with the sword, against his enemies." (p. 83) The question is which time period is authoritative. There is a rule for Quranic interpretation, called "abrogation", that if one verse commands one thing and a later verse commands a contrary thing, the later verse is to prevail. Perhaps we should assume the worst, then; but I'd suggest there is possible ambiguity as to the correct sequence of the Quran. Th author considers the two main sects of Islam, the Sunni (the great majority, centered in Saudi Arabia and most of the Arab countries) and the Shia (the minority, living mainly in Iran, Iraq, and Bahrain). The course of history over the last thousand years has made the Shia bitter enemies of the Sunni. They are basically the two sides in the current civil war in Syria.However, the players in the current Syrian conflict can be grouped in four ways -- Syria, nominally Shia (although actually partly Sunni as well, and ruled by another sect known as "Alawites") ; Iran, almost entirely Shia; and a number of Sunni and Shia rebel factions, some of them terrorists of the worst type. And there is Russia. Syria and Iran are fighting for the survival of the current regime while the rebels are trying to replace it. The US has attempted without success to get the parties together and create a new government of "moderate rebels". Russia has intervened on the government's side with highly destructive airstrikes which have been characterized as war crimes, but which have turned the war around. This is the "conventional war" aspect, in addition to the terror aspect. As I see it, Russia has changed the war into something new. Not counting the US, her GDP is about three times that of the next largest player, Iran. She has an air base in Syria as well as a port, and sells Iran large amounts of advanced weapons. The author entertains what look to me like lurid visions of an expanding Iran but seems a little more modest about Russian ambitions. I think that there will be other Middle East states acquiring nuclear weapons. This book warrants careful reading but with a critical eye.

Fantastic! I LOVED every word and I'm in the process of reading it again. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is interested in what is going on in this chaotic world.

Good summation of how we got to our current balance of power between US, Russia, and the Middle East. Also a solid contrast and history of the Islam vs Western democracy conflict. The writer supports his view that the "Obama vacuum" created Isis and has strengthened Iran and Russia. Quick read for anyone who wants to get a sense of how and why we are fighting a war against radical Islam.
