Travel essentialshave nothing else to compare it with, so difficult to make a reasonable judgement, but it is in good shape.

I am returning this item because:-Proper names are not spelled in standard English forms (the publisher of this map is in Germany)-It is difficult to read the map - it is a topographic map, which is unnecessary and makes it difficult to find and read the cities, notes etc. printed in red.Even if one is familiar with the region it is difficult to find things on this map!

A great overview of the regionI like this map because the colors are subtle and the shading shows how very mountainous the region actually is. It helps to understand how the political boundaries came to exist. I also like that the parks, museums, and other things to see are marked directly on the map, so I don't have to hunt for anything in an index.

I used this when I took a tour along the ancient Silk Road. It showed all the spots we visited in Uzbekistan and Krybyzstan.

Although this book was last published almost a decade ago (2008), the information is outstanding, especially for the beginner or novice rider. In fact, the information, tips, and suggestions are so good, even experienced riders will pick up a thing or two. Highly recommended as a first look into the exciting world of motorcycling!

This book was a good effort but frankly was way too basic for all but the most novice of riders. There was very little useful information in the book and I am disgusted that I spent nearly $14 for info that I could readily find on Youtube or a host of other places. Sorry - this one is a waste of money.

If you already know how to ride great it has info for you too! To unlearn mistakes someone else told you cause they were wrong on what someone else told them. I'm a truck driver and hhave to driver for everyone else to. People in cars pay no attention theese days! So when you ride your scoot you should be more alert than a truck driver. At any given second you can loose your life. I recomend this book. Try some of the skills they show you and you will be a safer and bettter rider! If you feel this book isn't for you cause your cool, wait untill you taste asphalt

Want what I was hoping for. I love for dummies books. But this was mostly common sense and vague instructions on how to do repairs. I donot recommend. Just take a safety course and you'll be set.

This book is a complete waste of paper. Take your state DMV book and add a sales guide, that's what this is.

I bought this as a gift for a friend who is getting into motorcycles. He said that the book was pretty basic, but good for a beginner. Which makes sense because the book is motorcycling for dummies and the for dummies series is basically just a for beginners series. Anyway, if you want something more technical this isn't it, but for the basics this is good enough.

I took a motorcycle safety class and the instructor recommended this book. I have read other books for dummies and thought they were complete waste of time, I am very skeptical about a book for dummies. I found this book very informative and educational without being presumptuous or condescending to a non motorcycle person. I have a scooter now but I want a motorcycle!

the best book on black holes I have read

I made it through the first chapter and won’t be reading the rest based on how badly the authors failed at explaining special relativity. Time dilation and length contraction can be explained quite simply, or at least my Highschool teacher was able to do so decades ago. If I hadn’t known the proper explanation, this chapter wouldn’t have helped at all. Also, the authors through in subjects that have not been introduced properly like Quarks. Rocco Perri was born in southern Italy in 1887 and moved to Canada as a young man. He eventually settled in Hamilton, ON, and became one of the most prominent mob bosses in Canadian history. He made his fortune in bootlegging, drugs, prostitution and more and was usually able to stay one step ahead of the law. His common law wife was Bessie Starkman and she murdered in 1930 as they were arriving home one night ... her murder was never solved.Frank Zaneth was from northern Italy and also arrived in Canada as a young man. He headed out west and tried homesteading with his then wife in the prairies. This turned out to be not what he had bargained for so he sold his land and became a Mountie. Over the years, he spent most of his time undercover and eventually investigating Perri became one of his cases.Perri went for a walk in April 1944 and was never seen again. There are theories that he is encased in cement at the bottom of Hamilton Harbour or that he took off to Mexico and lived out his days in hiding.I hadn't heard of Perri or Zaneth or their stories. I came across this book and it sounded interesting and it was. It's obvious the author did a great amount of research as it is quite detailed. I knew there was bootlegging going on during the Prohibition area and this book definitely gives you a feel of what it was like at that time living outside the law. Plus I didn't realize Canada had such a big mob presence.

Just outstanding, everything I expected and more. I am 69 years old, overweight and out of shape. Dr. Life has inspired me to join a gym and I've started working out five days a week for the past three weeks. Most books explain how to do upper body, day of rest, lower body, day of rest, and then back to upper body. This book divides the work out into five parts instead; chest, back, legs, shoulders, and arms. One body part for each of the five days of the week. Each trip to the gym takes less time as you are only exercising the single body part with four different exercises and four sets per. The diet info is valuable also and I am losing weight at over two pounds per week. Highly recommend.

Good workout plan and I'm sure the diet guidelines are good also, although I think both would be too hardcore for most users. Hormone replacement suggestions also sound too expensive for most readers and it is suggested that the hormone supplementation is required for results for older people.

it is the same thing at the first book. I did not see something changing. Different structure, different writing same content. I should get a refund at least. For a first time reader of the subject it is a great book.

This book was a great read and a worthwhile investment. When I first started reading it, I thought it was too basic for me, but luckily, I kept reading. Yes, it has the very basic concepts of layers, but it has WAY more too. I made several breakthroughs with this book, which is a major accomplishment for me. I usually feel like a book is worth it if I find one really worthwhile technique. I have 12 pages dog-eared so that I can get back to them quickly, and of course highlighting throughout the book.I loved the layout of the book. It is broken into 10 chapters that have subchapters within. The subchapters are short, less than 10 pages each, and have LOTS of graphics showing the screen he is referring to. There were a few times that I wished he'd shown another screen that he was referring to, but overall he showed what he was discussing. The text is brief and to the point without the mindless detail that kills some Photoshop books. At the end of each chapter he has a "How do I..." section that replays some of the tips he demonstrated from the chapter that I found quite useful.Some of my favorite things from this book were:* All of the great keyboard shortcuts. Yes, I have a book on shortcuts, and have printed out volumes from another book I purchased, but I found his more useful because they were in context.* His description of the layer blending modes with examples. I have a few that I use all the time, and this has really helped me branch out of my blending mode rut.* Clipping masks, yes, I've used them, but I didn't really understand how to make them. Now I do, and it's easy.* He also helped me expand with text. I didn't think about rasterizing a text layer so I could add filters, gradients, or use a brush on them, now I will. Or locking the transparent pixels, so a gradient doesn't apply to the whole layer, seems obvious, but I never thought of it.* I did not know there was a keyboard shortcut where you could run the last filter, but open the dialog box so you could change the settings. It's command-option-F! Yeah!* Loved his sections on creating a watermark, and creating glowing light streaks with layer styles. His layer style discussions were great.These were just a few of my favs. Some of these things may be familiar to you, especially if you watch Photoshop User TV the podcast as I do. But I still found the book quite helpful.There were a few things I didn't like about the book, for instance, he uses the eraser tool in situations where I would use a layer mask, since a mask would be less destructive. But I know another very famous photographer/retoucher that uses the eraser tool extensively over layer masks. So maybe it's what you are used to, but I would teach masks when at all possible. Matt does use layer masks extensively, but a few times, I thought, "Why is he using the eraser tool now, and not a mask?"Then when he was teaching the highpass filter to sharpen or create an `edgy look' he said he really uses a plug-in Topaz Adjust to create the same look because it is easier. I use the highpass filter as he describes all the time, but I have it as a recorded action, so it is easy for me. I own Topaz, I just don't use it that much.I really struggled over what rating to give this book, because I normally save my 5 stars for books that I consider perfect, and there were, as I mentioned, things I disagreed with in this book. But I liked the book so much, and would recommend it to any of my friends, that I decided it deserves 5 stars. This is a book that I will refer back to and study and incorporate many of his techniques, and where possible, automate them!

An outstanding book that was basically ruined by the publisher! The Kelby Training site not only fails to correct errata as other reviewers have stated, but the excellent videos (on how the cover was created, for example) abruptly END in the middle of the author's tutorial! The author also wasn't involved in the web site, because he states in every video "If this video is the first on the page, thanks for buying the book." He obviously lost not only editorial control with Kelby, but also control of the very important web material.Publishers need to become more aware that if they charge a LOT for a thin book, they BETTER make the web complement outstanding! Buyers of this book DESERVE a good web experience to complement this expensive a purchase, and especially this important and specialized a title (there are over 1,000 books on Photoshop and hundreds of Lynda videos, but this is rare coverage of a key and difficult topic-- layers. If a publisher wants to compete with the thousands of videos on Youtube and other educational sites (for example, O'reilly and Pearson both do outstanding web additions to many of their software titles), they really have to do a better job of extending web tutorials to purchasers of books like this, and then doing them with enough quality that the reader can actually finish the video.BTW, the parts of the videos that DID make it to Kelby's site are by the author and are outstanding!

With each new release, there are many new tools, enhancements and other changes. These have led to a powerful, complex tool that is tough to master. I have struggled to get a handle on layers and masks and associated tools for years. Following a procedure isn't enough for me. I need to know how and why it works. I need to understand the process."Layers," while outstanding isn't perfect. Matt does a great job with the book. It is written as a tutorial, sort of a script or lecture. He goes into great detail explaining all aspects of layers and associated tools.Don't expect to go through this book in one evening. For me, to get the most out of the material, I treat it as a college course. I read the material, highlight important concepts in the book, making my own notes in a separate composition notebook; review my notes and then do the lab work.As another reviewer points out, an improvement to the book would be to pull out the steps from the text, and list them near the appropriate illustration(s) [or in an appendix]. That way, one could repeat the process over and over without reading and rereading comments and other material. Also, the keyboard short-cuts are great but don't tell me what is happening. I know everyone says" ...Oh, short cuts are fast and save lots of time..." but here's the fact: short-cuts can come later, after I know and understand the process...; in the beginning, they're confusing, meaningless and don't tell what you are trying to accomplish. Tell me what you're doing; tell me the short-cut; after I've mastered and understanding the process, I will then learn the short-cut.All and all, this is what I have been looking for. It's a great book and if layers, blending, adjustment layers and masks have been confusing and a "black art" this book will explain many of the secrets and concepts that others don't tell.
