This chapter explains the Kamado Grill, How It Works, and it’s various Cooking Surfaces And Vessels. The chapter goes on to explain How To Start The Grill, How To Control The Temperature and includes Techniques on Grilling, Smoking, Roasting, and Baking.Recipe categories include:Wild GameBeefPorkPoultrySeafoodSidesBreads & DessertsEach of the recipes includes prep time, cook time, servings, type of heat (direct/indirect), and cooking surface required, all right at the top of the page. Next comes a brief description followed by the ingredients and instructions.Many of the recipes also included tip, some offering substitution suggestions others are preparation tips. For the most part, the ingredients are easily sourced except for a few exceptions like the recipes found in the Wild Game chapter. But of course, you wouldn’t be in this chapter if you didn’t already have the wild game meat.Unique And InformativeLike the Kamado Grill itself, These recipes are quite unique. Not simply happy with remaking standard recipe for the Kamado Grill, the author has instead offered the unique creations he makes for his personal chef client.While I was somewhat disappointed that only about a quarter of the recipes included a photo, the pictures included were spectacular. I liked this book and give it a 4 mainly because it has a very good front section on understanding and using the Kamado grill. The Kamado grill is capable of much more than grilling. I have a Kamado junior grill and after I bought it, found out I could bake on it. Had I known that before I bought it, I'd have got the larger version! So I think that a cookbook like this would be great for potential kamado owners to read before they buy their grills. I also really like some of the relish recipes in the cookbook. The recipes are well written with full color, gorgeous photography. Many of the recipes have international inspiration, with a lot of Asian based ones. I do find that the recipes often have ingredients that are quite expensive or just not available in my small town unless I want to travel into the city. Also, a lot of these recipes rely on grill accessories, which the book does show and explain. I bought a pizza stone for my small grill and it was 5x the cost of a regular oven pizza stone and half the size with no real reason why - so do note that some of the accessories might get pricey too, resulting in some quite expensive food to make. The book does balance this cost factor with lots of recipes for chicken, including wings and thighs.

After putting down a hefty amount of money, because your favorite BBQ chef on TV swears by it, you set it up in your backyard and you start thinking, "Now what?" Unlike gas grills or electric smokers, which take little knowledge (in comparison) you stand befuddled trying to figure out where to begin.This book should be your first step. Open the book and read the first 20 pages. In fact, memorize them, truly understand them. Those 20 pages will teach you everything you need to know. Then dive into the recipes. Start with a basic recipe like a grilled chicken or smashed burger recipe. Eventually, as you grow to love your cooker you will move up to something like the porchetta.This book is so helpful, I think people should read the first 20 pages before they decide to buy their cooker.
