I cannot tell you how much I dislike this book. The protagonist is obnoxious. I couldn’t dredge up one shred of sympathy for her. The plot is really far-fetched. And as a nurse, I am completely insulted and appalled by the way nurses have been portrayed in this book. As a nurse who specialized in the care of individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease, I resent the way the patients on the unit were described, and the way the ER nurses referred to them. Editing errors just added to the frustration. As far as I’m concerned, there is not one redeeming factor so don’t waste your time or money.
I started this book about 18 months ago, and couldn't seem to get past all the racial innuendos and inappropriate wise cracks, to finish the book. It starts off really well, then makes several turns...all in the wrong direction. I was really disappointed because the subject matter is something I have always been interested in...the elderly and forced/involuntary euthanasia. I kept picking it up because it has such potential - and then had to put in back down again for the same reason as before... saying absolutely nothing, with too many words! I really don't like giving negative reviews and can count the times that I have. The way this author describes some of the African American characters is, simply put, appalling! Read this book - if and only if - you are into masochism.
I am a book hound; I will read anything from billboards two books to the fine print in ads in magazines! I almost never quit a book part way through, but I had to quit this one. (I'll admit that I turned to the last chapter to read it to find out who done it. I shouldn't have bothered. It was the person I thought.) character development in this novel is almost absent. The author seems to expect that foul language and sexual innuendo will lead us to believe that he has gutsy characters as the protagonists. And worse than that the omniscient narrator is snide. The point of view switches erratically, but that's okay for the most part. If you like medical thrillers, as I do, you may be tempted by the title of this book. It has almost nothing to do with medicine; it's simply a badly done mystery.
This has been sitting on my Kindle for godonlyknows how long, but I found it and I opened it. Then I got drawn into the rich world and the tension and the characters and the backstory - all wrapped into one hell of a novel. If you haven't read it, pick up a copy. You won't regret it. And for petesakes, don't let it drown in the sea of books on your Kindle before you read it.
I believe this is the first book I have read by this author. It will not be the last. It was difficult to keep up with the twists and turns but it kept me turning the pages into the early hours. Well written, interesting characters, medical terms and the ER activity and medical care of the elderly as the story moved on was enough to bring chills up my spine. The ending was a surprise and made me hope the future would be interesting if the story continues.
Timmie is a forensic nurse who returns to Puckett, Missouri, where she grew up, to work in the ER and take care of her father who seems to have been a drunk and a hoarder and now suffers from Alzheimer. There is a top-notch nursing home for Alzheimer patients in town into which she gets her father admitted but she soon realizes that patients are mysteriously dying there. Is someone killing them out of mercy or is it for financial gain or research purposes? Not only are these people dying but there are some other murders as well.A forensic nurse as main character felt as a new approach to a mystery novel. With her knowledge and some help from a friend who is a reporter it is logical that she should be able to solve this mystery. The characters ring true, the story is well written, entertaining and spiced with humour. There are some minor flaws, like the amount of murdered husbands which was rather ridiculous, but never mind, mystery novels can't be expected to be entirely plausible, and it was a nice, pleasant read.Recommended for lovers of (medical) mysteries who can overlook the bad proofreading this story, like so many Kindle novels, suffers from, there were quite a few missing punctuation marks, letters, words and some mixed-up names.
I really enjoyed reading this medical mystery and thriller. The action was non-stop, and the author keeps you guessing all the way until the end. I enjoyed each of the characters. There were times when there was so much explaining that the book got a bit slow in those parts of the story line. The other part that bothered me was that it didn't appear as if the book had a good proofreading before it was released. I'm not sure if a good part of the problem was due to the kindle formatting, but there were quite a few misspellings, incomplete sentences, and illogical ones to the point where I, as the reader, had to stop and think and try to understand what they MEANT to say. A few times they even mixed up the names of the characters. But overall I enjoyed the story, and stayed up late at night to finish it. The preview of the next book Bad Medicine (A Suspense Novel) makes me want to pick it up as well.
This was an intriguing read. The main character Timmy has her plate full and more trouble than she or anyone else should have to endure when all they want to do is create a loving home for her daughter, work, and get on with her so called new life. I have read other stories by this author and was not disappointed. The characters are well developed with some more complex than others. Timmy is trying to find the killer or killers while fending for her own life, and protecting the lives of those she loves. Some good twists and turns in the story which kept my interest throughout the novel. The author is well versed on the topics in which her characters are involved. Good read.
