"This comprehensive text, as the author hopes, is likely to raise awareness among other physicians and among general readers, particularly women who will now have the knowledge necessary to become powerful self-advocates."―Publishers Weekly"An empowering, pro-women look at an often misdiagnosed condition that can cause infertility and devastating pain."―Booklist"As people, but especially as women, we have to be our own medical advocates. Whether it's my friends making their way through the birth industrial complex or the ones deciding how to handle a chronic illness like Lyme, educating ourselves is power. Plus (and I'm a broken record on this), our pain ― especially if it's located between belly button and ass crack ― is often not treated with the seriousness we would hope. My particular journey to navigate has been endometriosis, and Tamer Seckin's The Doctor Will See You Now: Recognizing and Treating Endometriosis, written with sensitivity and spirit, is an amazing primer if you or someone you love is suffering. In a world where information is everywhere yet answers are hard to come by, Dr. Seckin offers comfort and guidance.―Lena Dunham"The book’s inspiring text is purposefully crafted so that every reader can relate and understand endometriosis not only medically, but also emotionally." -National Pain Report"One of the best endometriosis surgeons is Dr. Tamer Seckin, a premier gynecologist specializing in endometriosis. Throughout my practice and teaching career, I have personally observed numerous top surgeons, both in Europe and North America, performing difficult endometriosis surgery in their operating rooms and, without hesitation, I can recommend Dr. Seckin as one of the best of the best."―C.Y. Liu, MD, Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Tennessee, College of Medicine. Director Emeritus, Fellowship Program in Minimally Invasive Gynecology, Chattanooga, Tennessee. Past President, American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL)"Dr. Seckin blends his knowledge and surgical skills with compassion and understanding of patient concerns. His many years of hands on experience and patient interaction combine to make this book a very worthwhile read."―Harry Reich, MD, First U.S. gynecologic surgeon to use the laparoscope to excise deep endometriosis of the ovary and rectum.“In this moving and informative book, Dr. Seckin provides an important resource for women with endometriosis - a common, widely misunderstood, and understudied condition. Recent research has revealed a major genetic component to endometriosis; now is the time for the scientific community to put serious resources into better understanding this complex inflammatory disorder. Targeted research can lead to earlier diagnosis, improved treatments, and eventually, preventative care to put an end to Endo.“―Peter K. Gregersen MD, Professor of Molecular Medicine, Hofstra-Northwell School of Medicine; Head, Robert S. Boas Center for Genomics and Human Genetics, Feinstein Institute for Medical Research.“Endometriosis cripples women without a proper diagnosis. Dr. Tamer Seckin’s The Doctor Will See You Now sheds light on this painful condition and advances the fight to help women with endometriosis through personal accounts and his breadth of knowledge. I’ve worked with Dr. Seckin’s co-founder of the Endometriosis Foundation of America, Top Chef star, Padma Lakshmi, to help women understand that there is hope and I know this book will do the same.”―State Senator Jeff Klein

You will learn what you need to know about Endometriosis. Your current doctor may not even know as much as you'd know about the disease, after reading this book. It's written to general public. The language and the tone is very friendly. It can be a little depressing to read edge cases and if you're like me you'll find yourself reading tons about what the book is referring to. It wasn't a fun ride for me learning about the details in this book, and I couldn't stop myself thinking a lot about the condition. But somebody has to do it; if it's not your current doctor then it'll be you until finding a specialist. There are very good advice in the book. One of them is diet change. Being gluten free is almost a must with this condition. Inflammation from gluten sensitivity aggregates the side effects by possibly feeding the scar tissue internally. It's a hormonal problem but it builds up over the years. So does gluten sensitivity results. Dairy, is another thing to be stay away from. When it comes to surgery options you'll face most of the doctors offering laparoscopy with laser (heated devices). This part, my friends, is to me the most important part of the book. I would have no clue about questioning the surgery techniques. Why would I, right? Doctors would know the best. Hmm, read what it does to you when a heated device touched our organs and the endometrial scar tissue. If you can, watch the videos of Dr. Seçkin; in medical conferences he explains why cold scissors are used v.s. high energy devices (i.e. laser).Bottom line is, what I leaned from this book came with a timely manner. I didn't think I may need a surgery within a year but I'm now in a month away. If you can go visit Dr. Seçkin in his downtown NY office. Thanks for reading and all the best.

This is the best book I’ve read written by a medical professional about endometriosis, a disease which affects 10% of fertile women in this country. Like most experts in his field, he’s very confident in his approach and methods and he provides compelling case examples to demonstrate this. However, I would have appreciated knowing about those truly impossible cases, where endometriosis is systemic and therefore seems inoperable or too risky. Maybe they haven’t existed in his experience but I find that difficult to believe. I give Dr. Seckin credit for being brave enough to include a chapter about one client who had serious life-threatening complications following a surgery he performed. I just expect he’s had more than one such experience and I wonder about the claim that every case of endometriosis is operable if done by the right surgeon with the right expertise (ie: him).

I was diagnosed with advanced endometriosis two weeks ago. My doctor thought I may have adenomyosis until he did surgery and found the endometriosis. I had frozen pelvis, cervical stenosis, and an ovarian endometrioma. I've felt bad for years and was misdiagnosed with fibromyalgia, depression, and arthritis. Long story short - I only had gastro symptoms in my younger years and only started having cramps about 2 years ago (I'm 44). Never had problems with infertility. I had NO CLUE that I had this, nor did any doctor ever mention the word "endometriosis" to me. When I woke up from surgery and the doctor told me, I wasn't even sure what it was. That's when I found this book on Amazon. Definitely 5 stars. I want to give a copy to every woman I know and every gynecologist in existence! Can't believe the MDs don't even understand this disease. I felt better immediately after surgery. I was having trouble even walking before this. Thank God, I had been referred to a gynecological oncologist who is a superb surgeon and so he knew what he was doing. I didn't realize what a blessing it was to have him until I read in this book how most surgeons don't know how to properly deal with endometriosis, not even gynecologists! This book should be required reading for OB/GYN medical students. Have been blowing up Facebook with information about this ever since! Buy this book and give it to anyone who is having mysterious health problems that have to do with IBS/gastro problems, infertility, fibromyalgia, etc. I asked my doctor how long I've had this and he said probably years. And I had no clue!

I enjoyed this book, and read through it quickly in 2 sittings, but feel like it doesn't provide much information beyond what you can find online. I like that he explained the big tell-tale symptoms by looping in stories from patients, but I was hoping for some insight, or at least a quick blurb listing the other symptoms that you don't hear discussed as often. The only new information I got from this is the real difference between the difference surgical options to remove the endometriosis.I agree with other reviewers that there are parts where it feels like he's just promoting himself, and after a while it got a bit annoying. For the price it wasn't bad because I was able to relate to the stories, and he discussed the difference in surgical treatment options
