I had been interested in doing real estate investing and I have paid for a few courses. But, after going through Luke's book, I was amazed that he literally gives you the exact blueprint you can use to flip houses successfully. Right from choosing the market to closing the deal. Great book, easy to read, but very specific on what action to take and when. I would highly recommend it if you are looking to get into real estate investing, especially with flipping houses.

Luke holds nothing back in this book. The cost of the material in this book should cost thousands of dollars! I am definitely going to have to go back through and re-read the book as he puts a ton of meat into these chapters. It reads very well. A lot of other real estate books are filled with 90% philosophical/motivational rambling that gets you fired up, but teaches you nothing. Then 10% of mediocre-enough information to make you dangerous when approaching real estate investing. This book is more like 95% completely useful information, but he definitely instills a small amount of purposeful motivation. I could go on and on, but this is one of the most packed-full of USEFUL information real estate books that I’ve ever read!

I'm not a book reader at all. In fact I can't remember the last time I read a book in it's entirety. This book kept me constantly interested by the excellent content and step by step process in to becoming a successful real estate investor. Author and active flipper, Luke Weber, explains his process for flipping houses that will not only give you the tools to become a successful investor but will also keep you from making costly mistakes in the process. I highly recommend reading this book even if you're an experienced flipper yourself.

I have paid thousands of dollars for many different REi trainings and they say if you pick up one nugget... your good! Luke Weber in this book drops a path of nuggets that allow you to be an effective and smart flipper, not only in your own town but remotely if you dare to venture out. Also learning how to determine better methods to determine an accurate ARV. So needless to say...you don't need to spend thousands of dollars to get these nuggets. Just 10 or 20 bucks is nothing, when you know it is going to save you or make you thousands! It's working for us everyday. I Highly recommend you get this book.

I loved this book, let me tell you why. Most of the training and mentorship pilfered by "GURU" wannabes don't give you half of the knowledge Luke's dropping in this book. If you're wanting to get into real estate, wholesaling, flipping, etc.- then The Flipping Blueprint is the book to read. If you're an experienced investor, I promise you will gain a few gold nuggets along the way and enjoy reading about Luke's story. For the newbies, Luke gives practical advice and mixes in his real estate journey so that you can see that's it's possible. Don't forget to join Luke's FB group and share your story.

I have read about a half dozen books on real estate, and this is by far the best, most thorough book I’ve read on the subject! It’s a quick & easy read! Luke Weber is a phenomenal writer, & teaches so much detail that other authors have let out. I read this on Kindle, but I’m ordering the hard cover book right now, so I can put chapter deviders in it & use it for reference. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is interested in real estate investing. Get it, read it, you won’t be disappointed!

As someone who's been in the real estate investing industry for over 25 years I've seen a lot of books on the topic of flipping houses. Most of them are filled with hype and just enough actual content to make you very dangerous.In this book Luke Weber gives a great blueprint and tells you the good, the bad, and the ugly things that happen in the real world of investing. His blueprint has useful and thorough due diligence steps and it's a must-read for anyone interested in getting into the game.I'd strongly encourage anyone thinking of flipping homes to read this book first before taking action as it will save you countless hours of stress and a whole lot of money!

I've toyed around with the idea of flipping houses for a long time--I have the renovation skills, but I've lacked the business side of the operation. This booked changed that. I've contacted realtors and wholesalers exactly how it was explained in the book and I'm already having deals sent to me.There is still a lot for me to learn through experience, but I'm probably a year ahead of where I was before reading this. I've saved myself a lot of money, stress, and time by learning from a master in the field instead of through costly trial & error.When I talk to people I have a firmer grasp on the subject matter and I know exactly what I want from each interaction.The drawings in the book are simple, but they get the point across, and I'm just being nitpicky at this point.Overall this is a great book, and one that I will read a few times over the next months to fully absorb everything.

Some wondeerful stuff here, although the author's over-the-top effusive praise bordering on Godhead for the G&B boys is a little bit stomach-churning at times. Yes we all recognize and appreciate the wonderful work that they do. But I would frankly be a little embarrassed if I were them. It's a bit much. Stunning photography and some good writing notwithstanding; but if you want a detailed book about building a wooden boat, this is not it. More about the aura of G&B and some very careful sanitizing of the people involved on the ownership side even though anyone with any sense can read between the lines.

This is a great book to everyone that is interested in building a wooden boat or just understanding what a builder is all about! I strongly recommend.

'Schooner' is a great story about two true craftsmen and the workers in their company, Gannon & Benjamin. Their location on Martha's Vineyard and the old-world craftsmanship they and their workers have learned make for a really interesting story, refreshingly devoid of modern technology. Their boats are works of art, as well as the photography, which focuses not just on beautiful boats, but the raw materials and process behind the boats.

Schooner - Building a Wooden Boat on Martha's Vineyard details, in prose and photographs, the story of the design and construction of the schooner, Rebecca of Vineyard Haven, the largest wooden vessel to have been built on Martha'a Vineyard since the days of Abraham Lincoln.At first glance, it would be easy to consider Schooner to be a "coffee table book." In one sense, it works very well as one. The photography by Alison Shaw is stunning and the layout of the graphics and sidebar text is beautifully done. It is easy to pick up the book, flip through the pages and get lost in the vivid imagery and the succinct captions.It would be a mistake if that is all you do, however. Tom Dunlop's account of the birth of the shipyard, and the growth of Rebecca from an idea, to a sketch, to a design, and finally to a sailing schooner is fascinating. At the heart of the tale are Nat Benjamin and Ross Gannon who began repairing wooden boats on the beach at Vineyard Haven and go on to found the Gannon and Benjamin Marine Railway, where the Rebecca will be designed and built.Dunlop follows the construction of the schooner one step at a time in language that is clear enough for the layman but still engaging for those who have spent a bit of time in boatyards. We follow along with the shaping of the angelique timbers, imported from the jungles of Suriname, for schooner's keel; to the cutting of frames; the planking of the hull and the construction of the masts. We encounter a major fire at the shipyard, which misses the Rebecca, and the bankruptcy of the original owner of the schooner. Ultimately, the story told in Schooner has as much to do with those who built this beautiful schooner as it does the construction itself.My only quibble with the prose is a certain understandable enthusiasm that creeps in from time to time. For the sake of full disclosure I built fiberglass boats while in college and spent several decades working with steel ships, which perhaps informs or at least colors my skepticism when I read gushing passages about the superiority and longevity of wooden boats. Tom Dunlop writes: "Properly cared for, there is every reason to believe that this schooner, built a the turn of the twentieth century, will still be sailing strong at the turn of the twenty second." The statement is absolutely true. Nevertheless, the average reader might not grasp what is entailed in the phrase "properly cared for" as applied to wooden boats of this size. He also comments that "sailing a wooden boat feels more rewarding than fiberglass - an organic craft that seems to come to life as it moves through the water, rather than a plastic thing that seems vaguely to confront it." Having sailed on wooden, fiberglass and steel sailing boats and ships, the primary difference I've noted was the attention we paid to the bilge. (The wooden sailing vessels usually required more pumping.) These quibbles aside, Dunlops' enthusiasm for his subject captures the very real sense of wonder and excitement as the schooner begins to take shape from its component parts. He captures the magical sense of creation that has inspired boat builders and sailors for as long as boats have been built.

I was fortunate enough to listen to a podcast/interview with this author and then decided to purchase her book. I found it extremely well thought out and well written. First, the introduction gives the reader a clear view of what will be covered--no time or words wasted. Toward the end of the intro is a table of the possible types of conflict, options for handling each, and reaction tendencies. The table serves to define terms and provides direction--all in about a ½ page. The rest of the intro includes a list of 8 approaches to beginning the conversation to resolve the conflict. That sort of condensed introductory info makes the following content easy to remember and then put into practice. The text itself is a reflection and continuation of the author's ability to keep the material well organized and simple to grasp. This makes the book a functional, down-to-earth reference. Since purchasing this, I have since discovered it is also available as part of a set that includes "tools and powerpoint." However, I do not see that on the Amazon site, though I believe there is way to request it through the Amazon Assistant browser extension. One final word: as a suggestion to the reader, keep in mind this approach to solving conflict works with ALL relationships, not just professional ones. This would definitely be effective for personal relationships too.

In this beautifully packaged, easy-to-read guidebook to handling conflict, Amy Gallo makes the most difficult of conversations workable, perhaps even comfortable. Packed with good practical advice, Gallo has relied on both a corps of experts plus her own experience in writing dozens of articles for the Harvard Business Review. Gallo covers everything that any reader who has to deal with conflict (all of us!) needs to know and do. She even deftly covers rare situations like how to handle a transaction when your counterpart is suffering from a mental illness. Checklists, tables, charts and brief summaries make Gallo's wise insights even more usable.

What a great new book! All organizations have conflicts to deal with from time to time. This book is a good resource!

I learned what a watch winder was! A book hung up on watches and watch winders or maybe I am. Billionaires and humor and observations of America as a late middle-aged man with too much falls apart and travels across America on a Grey Hound, with other plot points and assorted chaos in passing. Lake Success got a great review from NPR so I bought it. Well Ok, I like it, but "sprawling" and "great" I don't think so! It is too short to be sprawling and it is not well enough written to be great, but it does talk about Billionaire affectations as the billionaire has a breakdown and decides to travel with the 'smelly people' on a Greyhound from La di dah to la di da and Texas and on to California and this main character has a watch fetish, and this is where I learned of watch winders. And I suppose that is sad about him and sad about the book and the country the novel attempts to satirize.

This is a story about folks in the 0.01% in Trump's America - told through two folks - a rich banker and his beautiful Asian wife, who discover their son has a terrible illness, So how do they deal with it ? - by obssessing over very expensive whisky, endless lists of expensive watches, and having meaningless affairs with nearly everyone they meet, of course. But worry not, even if they are very careful not to be sexist, anti-Semitic, homobphobic or racist at all , they are not not very sympathetic or interesting characters anyway! Nor very credible, the main character is a very rich banker who thinks he is making a big life change, a journey of discovery by setting out on trip on Greyhound . He is awakened to the 'real' America apparently by having a Mexican sleep on his shoulder, having an affair with a African-American young woman (very pretty of course), mooches off the WASP parents of his former girlfriend and his Korean American protege (who he had secretly fired), All too forget the fact that his Indian American wife (very pretty of course) had called him 'without soul or imagination' and then proceeded to have an affair with a jewish Guatemalan writer (with a low Amazon rank it is noted) , then confiding the details in her Korean bf. Meanwhile our banker gets his desserts sharing some crack with a homeless and then pleasuring him. If you arent convinced by now that this is possibly one of the most contrived, fake, and underwhelming stories you will force yourself to finish, then sorry for my interruption, please indulge in this nonsense.

I agree with the assessment of another reviewer. Almost every character was a caricature. From super rich hedge fund guy, Barry, to his Indian professor in-laws, to his autistic son. Barry had a boring fixation for vintage watches which was tedious to read about. Also peppered throughout was the currently de rigueur Trump bashing which is tiresome and unoriginal. Very superficial characters that were difficult to care about.

I've been a fan of Gary Shteyngart since The Russian Debutante's Handbook, so I looked forward to Lake Success with great anticipation, which was only partially rewarded.Lake Success tells the story of Barry Cohen and his wife Seema, one percenters whose lives have come badly unglued. Their dreams of perfect children have been shattered by the birth of an autistic son; Barry's hedge fund is under scrutiny from the SEC for insider trading, and their marriage is unraveling. Against this backdrop, Barry takes off for a Greyhound bus journey across America, ostensibly a trip to rediscover and redeem himself.Shteyngart's eye for the insane excesses of the ultra-rich is dead-on; he endlessly catalogues their narcissism, their petty materialism, their smug certainty that they are morally superior for having accumulated obscene wealth, and their elaborate self-justification. All of that makes for familiar territory, and Shteyngart mines the abundant comic potential for all it's worth.But where the novel falters is in its attempt to show moral redemption. To be blunt, Barry's lengthy sojourn on Greyhound buses, together with the slow realization that he is a lucky fraud, are not convincing. Similarly, Seema's hypocritical acceptance of her life of privilege without self-examination, followed by a pivot to acceptance of her past, is equally tepid. I understand that Shteyngart needed some plot structure to build a novel around, and eventually both Barry and Seema come to terms with their son, but the novel feels more like a series of funny sketches than a coherent and believable narrative. I laughed and enjoyed Lake Success, but it felt a little like gorging on junk food; there wasn't all that much substance.

This is basically a kind of cynical road-to movie--well, not really. But the protagonist, Barry Cohen, does travel across country on a mission to find himself, after his high-end Manhattan hedge-fund life implodes. A master of irony, Shteyngart displays an amazing, granular knowledge of finance, the autism spectrum, "flyover" geography, and artisanal watches--or at least enough to fool me. In alternate chapters, we follow the exploits of Barry's abandoned wife, Seema, which I found less interesting. Maybe it's because I'm a guy, but so is Shteyngart, and he's better on the male characters than the female ones. Seema's chapters are mostly about her connections with others--her lovers, her son, her parents--and, I suspect, would never pass the Bechdel test. Still, the overall story has a gripping, propulsive narrative drive. Even when Barry, a sort of anti-hero, falls into absurd depravity, you just can't stop reading. This may be Shteyngart's best fiction yet!

I love John Irving. I think he stands with Kingsolver, Updike, Roth, Bellow, and Tan as the great novelists of the late 20th/early 21st century. Irving's quirky characters are present in this work, but all he does is kill them off. Is he obsessing about his own mortality and confused spirituality? Although often tempted to give up and stop reading, I trudged on to the bitter end. I'm left with an impression of corpses, spent condoms, and limp penises.I'm sorry, but still hopeful that John Irving can get it up again.

As a huge fan of John Irving, I am so disappointed that I can give just two stars to this book. I liked one reviewer's assessment that it would have made a decent short story. And another's that Lupe was the only (or most) interesting character. Both true. Other than that, this book progressed painfully slowly and a less avid reader would have abandoned it. Irving's obsessive forays into Catholicism and its various saints, along with the debate over whether writers' works should spring from autobiographical inspiration or their imaginations, left me with just one response: WHO CARES? Truly, it felt like an old guy's rant."Ah, yeah, there goes Grandpa John again..." Not entertaining. Indeed, I kept hoping that maybe Dorothy and Miriam were really some kind of spirits, and maybe Juan Diego was already in the after life, reliving his best childhood memories. But in the end, I was not rewarded for hopefully reading on. Sad to say, but the dump kids should have just burned this one and tossed those ashes at the Virgin Mary's feet. (BTW did anyone else hate that Juan Diego and Lupe were called "the dump kids" for the whole book?)

'Avenue of Mysteries' brings to mind a quote from another venerated man of letters: "We can't bust heads like we used to. But we have our ways. One trick is to tell stories that don't go anywhere."Grandpa Simpson was talking about strike breaking, but much the same could be said of John Irving's storytelling. At the age of 73 when he wrote 'Avenue of Mysteries', Irving's abilities have faded. His famous wit is still visible and recognisable, but it's a shadow of its former self. Like many elderly novelists, Irving is now more about rumination than narration, which does not make for an engaging plot. Somewhere underneath his old man meandering there's a potentially interesting story, but it stays submerged as he slowly chews his way through unremarkable scenes, solid blocks of exposition, and, just to add a little kick to proceedings, some of the worst sex writing of the year, if not the decade.Twenty or thirty years ago Irving might have been able to wrest a corker of a story out of this scenario, but now the only bits that aren't tedious are clumsy. It's not completely unreadable, but it doesn't deserve more than 2 out of 5 stars.

A stew is often made of ingredients you have in your home, things you enjoy, things you know. For me Avenue of Mysteries was a wonderful stew of Mr. Irving past work. I heard familiar themes that I enjoyed in his previous novels that, through his great talent, we're revisited and combined into a tasty literary stew. I enjoyed each page.Memory Lane was my working title for the book but I thought of that in a positive way. I was amazed that previous themes could be combined and reinvented, given new life and further explored. Mr. Irving is an author I treasure for his creativity. Thank you for writing and for pushing the boundaries.

I loved the book - it is a contrived plot- after all isn't Irving's forte - magical realism? Loved the character of Juan Diego, 'dump reader' turned renowned novelist, and the plot itself - pretty heavy-handed foreshadowing from the first that this was to be his last few months on this earth. I found it very entertaining for a summer read - some parts hilarious, others sad and heartrending and really loved the supernatural elements of various characters and religious elements. Perhaps it is because of my own Roman Catholic background that I enjoyed Juan Diego's diatribes against the hypocrisy of the church while opposing arguments and symbolism exposed through the characters and events of the book support the notion that most of us humans need to cling to some form of spirituality in order to make any sense of the essential existential questions.

A beautifully written book with children in mind. I read this to my six year old who loves all things non fiction, scientific adored this book. He did look at me curiously when we would go to page to page - he expected more "meat" to the information. While this relays the information in a way the young minds can grasp, it falls a bit short in length. It almost teases the reader with a bit of information but then goes to the next thing. That could be seen as a positive, however. When we finish reading one of the Baby Professor books, he is always wanting to know and learn more. Which catapults us into a search for more information on what we just read. I appreciate the help in the fostering of love of learning. On that, it definitely delivers! I wish there was more information contained in the book as well as the book ends so abruptly. With that said, I still highly recommend the book for young, curious children. If anything, it will build a curiosity that we as parents can supplement. I had an opportunity to read this book at a discount in exchange for my fair and honest review. The discount did not sway my opinion at all.

Great book for kids. This book gives kids ideas about places to see in South America. It's well written and the pictures are amazing. I would consider buying this for my Grandson if he were a little younger, although he loves good pictures, so may just get it for him because of the pictures. These "Around the Globe" books allows children and adults to see places they might not otherwise see such as: Iguazu Falls, on the border of Argentina and Parano. They are beautiful. I can imagine that children reading this series of books might want to see these things if their parents don't take them when children, then they might want to go as adults. It teaches the reader about culture and other races without prejudice or judgement which I find refreshing. There is a great picture of Huacachina which is a small town in the middle of sand desert at a natural lake, in Southwestern Peru. This book is just a great book in the aspect it inspires the imagination and gives a small yet detailed blurb on each place. I appreciate this series of books immensely.As a writer it gives me a goal to reach if I choose to write as a traveler.My grandson is in 2nd grade, is an avid reader, he reads way above his school grade. He told me that vivid pictures allow him to use his imagine to transport him to another place and time. We have begun a series on different countries so this book on areas that are a "Must See" in Soth America was perfect to teach my kids a few of the things they might see if they traveled to South America.This book takes you to 14 different places in South America including: Iguazu Falls, Torres del Paine National Park, Huacachina, Cordillera Huayhuash, Machu Picchu, Galapagos Islands, Lake Titicaca, Amazon River, Angel Falls, Rapa Nui National Park, Fernando de Noronha, Las Lajas Sactuary, Florianopolis, and Laguna Verde.These are some of the highlights of a trip to South America and this book gives good information about each area as well as a beautiful and some times breathtaking photo. The information was good to be read to children and they can really grasp what these areas have to offer. Then the pictures just supplement that information. Baby Professor always uses great photos to illustrate and give many opportunities for kids to soak in information while taking in what that area looks like. With kids this is extremely important!We have taken this book to the next level as we continue our studies of South America and these wonderful landmarks. I was really interested to see what the "must see" places of South America were. It would be almost impossible to create a children's book to contain all the wonderful information about South America, but this is a very concise list. My daughter is two so she is a little young to fully understand the information that was presented in this Baby Professor book. However, she did ask questions about these places and understood the basic information and enjoyed looking at the photos. I'm sure this would be very appropriate information for school aged child.This kindle edition was flawless with it's formatting. It was simple and easy to navigate. When I read this I sat along with my two year old and she was able to swipe for me after reading each page. She really loves to swipe to see all the different pictures.Around The Globe - Must See Places in South America: South America Travel Guide for Kids (Children's Explore the World Books) the Kindle Edition contains information about fourteen different places and parks in South America. Some pages are about specific cities and some are about rivers, parks and islands. They are simple to understand.
