My son is a huge bug enthusiast, so I thought I would check this book out as something for him. The title made me feel as though there would be some in detail information about different bugs, so I was excited to see what Speedy Publishing had come up with.PROS:There are beautiful pictures of bugs. They are clean, crisp, and give a really great visual representation of the bugs that are discussed.I could look at these pictures for hours and still be mesmerized.There is good general information about a some of the more popular categories of bugs.There was a good attempt to show the life-cycle of some of the varieties of insects.CONS:There was not an introduction to the book. It just jumped right in without telling about the definition of what a bug was, how many insects there are in the world as compared to humans, etc.There was not specific insect information. For instance, there was a lot of picture of beetles, which are the most common insect species. There was no discussion on any of the names of specific beetles, just very general information. For a book that says that it is an encyclopedia, I would have expected that there would be more detail involved.While there is an effort to describe the life cycle of a couple of bugs, it is very disjointed. The order of the life cycle is not correct. It begins well, but then becomes jumbled together and skips around. This can be very confusing to a child who does not already understand the order, and this book would only make it more complicated.There are some pretty glaring mistakes in grammar. Being an avid reader, I understand that some small typos sometimes slip through, but with a book this short, it doesn't seem that this many mistakes should have slipped through with just a little bit of care and proofreading.Overall, this book is ok. It does have great pictures with some good facts, but the disjointed nature of the book and lack of detail is a bit strange. I wanted to like this book more than I did, but I feel that it was just some book that was kind of half-way put together and published.**This book was received free or discounted in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own and are not influenced by the publisher.**
Before you decide to purchase this book either for yourself or your kids, I have to warn you that there will be pictures of spiders. This warning is only applied to you if you have arachnophobia. This is a great book for children to learn about the diversity of arachnids. However, there is one mistake I found on the picture of scorpion on page 12. The letter “s†is separated from “corpion†in different lines without using a hyphen. They should have done proofreading before publishing this book because it is very important for children to learn the proper spelling.There is information inside speech boxes provided on most of the pictures. It gives facts about life cycle or anatomy of butterflies, beetles, etc. It seems like the facts are given randomly because the author mostly focuses on spiders, butterflies, and beetles. Other insects like moths, ants, or centipedes are shown in one page for eachBesides the mistakes I mentioned above, the overall quality of this book is good. They have great close-up pictures that capture all the details on the wings, legs, and bodies. It would help kids be aware of how beautiful the nature is.My review is based on the free Amazon Kindle eBook preview version that I got for free in exchange for my honest opinion. The process of downloading this book into my Kindle app was really simple. I am a mom homeschooler, I love to read aloud to my 5 years old son, looking for options of "on the go" books and a better use of our tablet, I found this title interesting for him, I think almost all kids or boys love bugs. This book has good pictures, the text is somehow small, but it is still readable, I wish it could be bigger really. I found one or two misspell words here and there. The background is clean and not annoying .It has some developed descriptions of 3 or 4 insects in more than one pages, and some short description in the comments boxes used for them in only one page. It is not an extended books or writing, but it can maintain interested a kid for a moment. Also it could be used for hunting words, insect comparison, and B is for Bug of course.A I have reviewing before for this publisher, I do notice the simplicity of the edition but in this opportunity it didn't bother me because the content is enjoyable, what makes it friendly for a reader beginner.Disclosure: Remember this e-book is free for kindle users, however, I received this product from the seller also for free in exchange for my honest review, it doesn't mean that I have to give an irresponsible fantastic review or rate this product 5 stars automatically just because, I take the time to observe, use and make my own mind about the product, an give an genuine honest review.
